Safe Use Instructions – Emerson FB3000 RTU
Part D301876X012
November 2023
Figure 7. Grounding Lug
Once you have installed the unit, run a
ground wire 1.62 mm in diameter (14 AWG)
protective conductor between the ground
lug and a known good earth ground.
Use stranded copper wire to earth ground
and keep the length as short as possible.
Clamp or braze the ground wire to the
ground bed conductor (typically a stranded
copper AWG 0000 cable installed vertically or
horizontally).
Using a high-wattage soldering iron, tin the
wire ends with solder before you insert
them into the chassis ground lug.
Run the ground wire so that any routing
bend in the cable has a minimum radius of
30.48 cm (12 inches) below ground and
20.32 cm (8 inches) above ground.
For more information on grounding or if your
installation uses cathodic protection, refer to
Considerations for Equipment Installation, Grounding,
and Wiring
(D301452X012).
Wiring to Power
Wire the FB3000 through the bottom of the
chassis. The terminal blocks accept wiring 2mm
in diameter (12 AWG) or smaller. To connect the
wire to the removable block compression
terminals:
Bare the end (6mm maximum) of the wire.
Insert the bared end of the wire into the clamp
beneath the termination screw.
Tighten the screw.
4
Expose a minimum of bare wire to prevent short
circuits. Allow some slack when making connections
to prevent strain.
Connect the power wiring. Review the power wiring
descriptions in
Instruction Manual
Verify the hook-up polarity is correct.
To make DC power supply connections:
Remove the terminal block connector from the
socket.
Insert each bare wire end into its appropriate
connector and secure the wire (see
Plug the terminal block connector back into the
socket.

Powering Up the FB3000
DANGER
Do not attempt to connect power or disconnect
power from the unit in a hazardous area. Ensure
the area is non-hazardous. Failure to do so could
result in an explosion.
