The friendly and squishy design means Pawz will become a cherished
friend for children, helping to personalize the mindfulness process
of deep breathing. Pawz can help guide the instruction of different
breathing patterns to help children calm down in upsetting situations,
manage stress, and relax.
Social-Emotional Learning
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process by which children and
adults understand and manage emotions; set and achieve positive
goals; learn, observe, and model empathy; establish and maintain
positive relationships; and make responsible decisions. Learning to
manage feelings, respond positively to stressful situations, and get
along with others is a vital part of childhood development.
According to the Collaborative for Academic,
Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), there
are five core competencies (shown in the
diagram to the right) that can help children
navigate their world more effectively.*
This calming pup helps children practice
mindfulness, a key skill in developing three
of the five core competencies: self-awareness,
self-management, and responsible
decision-making.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness is an important part of emotional intelligence. It is the
ability to think about your own thoughts and feelings in the moment.
It is a good practice to help manage stress and anxiety. It can help
maintain or restore emotional equilibrium. Mindfulness practices may
include meditation, breathing exercises, and other activities that focus
on present moments. The best way to teach mindfulness is to practice
it yourself and talk about it with your children. You could talk about
really enjoying every moment when on a walk or savoring a favorite
