@Signal-strength meter
Turn the tuning control@ to adjust the dial pointer near the
frequency of the desired station. Look at the signal-strength
meter
and tune until the pointer
moves
to the maximum
position.
@ Tuning control
Turn the tuning control slowly until the main dial
pointer
indicates
the
desired
FM
or
AM
broadcast
frequency.
Always tune for the highest possible signal-strength meter®
reading,
which
indicates the optimum
receiving
position.
This will assure clear, undistorted reception, minimum inter-
ference
from
adjacent
stations,
and
maximum
left-right
channel
separation
during
FM
stereo
broadcasts.
The
actual value of the signal-strength meter® reading in each
case will depend
on the signal-strength
of that particular
station.
When the FM center-tuning meter®
needle is at the center,
reception is optimum.
Turn the tuning knob slowly to left
and right until the FM center-tuning meter®
needle points
to the center position.
@ Selector pushbuttons
These are ''ON"' when pushed (—.m).
"FM":
For reception of FM broadcasts.
"AM":
For reception of AM broadcasts.
"rec level check":
Set to the unpushed
(m—m)
position
for reception
of
AM
and FM broadcasts.
Set to
pushed
(M--m)
position
when
adjusting the recording
level
of the tape deck
for
tape recording. (Refer to the section 'TAPE DECK CON-
NECTIONS AND RECORDING."
Note:
These
3 pushbuttons
are interlocked.
When
one
is
pushed, the others will become
off.
© Stereo indicator
This indicator is illuminated
in red
when the dial pointer
tunes to a station broadcasting
in multiplex stereo.
if the
Muting/FM
mode button © is set to the ''off/mono"' position,
the stereo indicator lamp
will not illuminate
even
though
the broadcast is in stereo.

@ Set the input selector to "'tuner"'
@ Set the tape monitor selector to ''source''.
© Turn
the votume
control
counter-clockwise
to a mini-
mum
volume
level. Keeping
it turned slightly colckwise
will facilitate later broadcast selection.
© Set the power switch to turn on power.

volume,

quality

integrated
amplifier section.
«lf this unit is used at a great distance
from the broad-
casting station, or where external noise is excessive, first
depush the multiplex
high-blend pushbutton®
to turn it
"on" (—am).
If noise is excessive, it can be reduced by
setting the muting/FM
mode
button®
to the "'off/mono"
position. Note, however, that even stereo broadcasts
will
then be received as monaural.
FOR AM BROADCASTS:

Operations other than the following are to be made
in the
same
manner
as in the FM broadcast reception.

station
with
the
tuning

while watching the signal-strength

is inoperative

AM
broadcast listening.
Note:

receiving
FM and AM
broadcasts,
use the output
level contro!@
to adjust the volume
level if there
is a
difference
from
the
volume
when
listening
to phono
discs
or
tape.
For operation
of the integrated. amplifier. for both FM
and AM. broadcasts,
read
the operating
instructions
: for the amplifier carefully.
«If distortion and/or noise are excessive during reception
of FM and
AM
broadcasts,
refer to the section

NECTION

USE

AN
FM
(AM) ANTENNAS",
and
then connect the best antenna.
