ESR 4NC contains the anticoagulant trisodium citrate and is used for collecting whole blood. Trisodium citrate is in the form of a 0.105 molar solution (3.13 % trisodium citrate solution; often rounded
up to 3.2 %) and amounts to 20 % of the nominal volume of an S-Monovette
the analysis.
This citrate whole blood is used as specimen material for routine tests, determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
Anticoagulation occurs through calcium ion complex formation by citrate.
