The chairs of the Aluminium Group are the best-known designs of
Charles and Ray Eames. They appeared in 1958 and are classics in
the 20th century's history of design.
A typical feature of the Aluminium Chair is its intelligent combina-
tion of materials. Its form is clear and transparent and its construc-
tion clearly visible. The cover is attached to the sides and stretched
loosely so that it adapts to the body and provides comfort without
expensive cushioning. Hence the cover is not a merely an addition
but is a supporting part of the design.
The design of the Soft Pad Chair dates to 1969. In construction and
form it resembles the structure of the Aluminium Chair. The stitched
cushions stand in contrast to the slender aluminium profile. Thus the
Soft Pad Chair appears softer and more luxuriant without losing its
transparency and clarity.

truktion und Form gleicht er dem Aufbau des Aluminium Chair.
Die aufgenähten Polster stehen im Kontrast zum schlanken Alu mi-
niumprofil. So wirkt der Soft Pad Chair weicher und üppiger, ohne
an Transparenz und Klarheit zu verlieren.
