g) Un logiciel spécifique est peut-être requis.
Selon la page Internet de Seagate (www.seagate.com), il faudrait un
logiciel spécifique pour activer le mode ATA-66/100 lors de l'utilisa-
tion de disques durs de la marque Seagate prévus à cet effet.
Il est possible que le même procédé soit également requis pour les
disques durs d'autres fabricants. Veuillez consulter les pages Inter-
net des fabricants correspondants.
h) Lors de l'exploitation de disques durs provenant de différents
fabricants, des problèmes peuvent survenir.
Dans la plupart des cas, l'exploitation de disques durs différents
fonctionne. Etant donné que chaque fabricant fait fonctionner l'in-
terface à partir de composants différents, des problèmes pourraient
cependant survenir.
i) Posez correctement les câbles dans l'ordinateur !
N'empaquetez pas les câbles. Bien que cela donne un aspect prop-
re au câblage, la mise en faisceau des câbles ATA-66/100, par
exemple à l'aide d'une boucle, peut provoquer des erreurs de trans-
mission.
Laissez les câbles de façon non bouclée à l'intérieur de l'ordinateur.
Il n'est pas non plus recommandé de les coller aux tôles du boîtier
ou de les bourrer entre les autres disques.
7. Raccordement d'autres appareils IDE
Pour cela, tenez compte de l'illustration dans le chapitre 6b).
Il est possible que le connecteur du contrôleur soit marqué en cou-
leur (dans la plupart des cas en bleu). Si ce n'est pas le cas, le
connecteur du contrôleur est celui avec le plus long bout de câble.

should use a current operating system which allows lar-
ger partitions. FDISK for Windows 98 asks you at the
start whether to activate support for larger partitions,
answer Yes ("Y").
It is, however, sensible to create several partitions even for a current
operating system. Thus you can separate data from you operating
system. Or a partitions serves as "data grave" for a CD burner, etc.
When partitioning with FDISK it is very important
that you activate the first "primary" partitions.
Otherwise there will be NO booting process after
you have installed the operating system!
FDISK only performs the activation automatically, if
one single partition is created.
After partitioning with FDISK a restart is necessary. Only then will
the partitioning or modification of an existing partitioning be detec-
ted. Now all partitions can be formatted with the command FOR-
MAT – for larger hard disks this may take quite a while.
Finally, you insert the Windows 9x – CD in your CD-ROM drive. If
you have correctly created the booting disk formerly, the setup pro-
gram of the Windows CD-ROM can be activated when you have
switched to the CD-ROM drive (e.g. enter drive letter E:)
When you are not using the ATA-100 controller for
booting/starting the operating system, you do not
have to install the operating system on the "second"
hard disk.
However, problems may occur if you have already created partitions
on the existing hard disk. Using a second hard disk then shifts the
drive letters. For example:
