b) Windows ME
After the new hardware has been detected, click "Specify the loca-
tion of the driver (advanced)", then click "Next". Click "Specify a
location" and then "Browse".
Select the CD-ROM drive with the driver CD, choose the folder
"CMD", in it the folder CMD649" and then the folder "WINME". Click
"OK" and then "Next".
Windows 98 now finds the driver for "CMD PCI-0649 Ultra DMA IDE
controller". Click "Next", whereupon the drivers are copied, then
"Finish".
Last but not least Windows ME detects the two controllers (primary
and secondary DIE).
9. BIOS settings
The IDE controller is capable of booting. This means that the opera-
ting system can be loaded f any time from a hard disk connected to
the ATA-100 controller (at the IDE1connection, set as "master").
If you do not want to make use of this option, skip the following
information.
For this purpose you do no necessarily have to switch off the IDE
controllers on your motherboard.
Often, the booting can be accomplished by the ATA-100 controller
as follows:
In the BIOS/Setup of your PC search the option "HDD Sequence
SCSI/IDE first:" (or similar text depending on BIOS). Here select
"SCSI".
Or you can just set the boot sequence (e.g. "A, SCSI, C" or so).

100 comme suit :
Recherchez dans le setup de BIOS de votre micro-ordinateur l'opti-
on « HDD Sequence SCSI/IDE first : » (la commande peut différer
légèrement selon la version BIOS utilisée). Sélectionnez ici « SCSI ».
Ou il suffit de définir l'ordre d'initialisation (par exemple « A, SCSI, C
», ou similaire).
Bien sûr, le contrôleur ATA-100 n'est pas un contrôleur SCSI. Cela
est pourtant sans importance pour le BIOS du micro-ordinateur ;
dans le BIOS, il faudrait dire « Other » au lieu de «SCSI », probable-
ment cela serait plus clair.
De toute façon, le micro-ordinateur devrait démarrer à partir du con-
trôleur ATA-100.
Il est possible que certaines versions de BIOS n'offrent
pas cette possibilité d'initialisation. Il est donc néces-
saire d'éteindre le contrôleur IDE disponible sur la carte
mère ou de désactiver au moins le contrôleur principal.
Une autre solution serait de NE PAS connecter de dis-
que dur au contrôleur principal de la carte mère (donc
de connecter uniquement des périphériques comme
des graveurs de CD, etc.). Quelques versions BIOS de
cartes mères permettent même de transmettre l'ordre
d'initialisation à un contrôleur PCI-IDE.
Des fois il peut également se révéler nécessaire d'équi-
per le disque dur à partir duquel on souhaite faire
démarrer d'un système d'exploitation sur le contrôleur
de la carte mère, puis retirez le disque dur pour le réen-
ficher dans le contrôleur ATA-100.
