4.2.3 Partial operating time test (TBT)
Every 3 months a partial operating time test is performed. If no emergency
lighting operation
> 30 min. has occurred during the last 3 months. During this test emergen-
cy lighting operation is performed for approx. 35 min.
4.3
Charging technology
4.3.1 Information about the charging
technology
The charged and discharged current is measured, processed and fed to a
capacity counter by the charging technology that is controlled by a
microcomputer.
This capacity-dependent charge control prevents overcharging. Only the
amount of energy used is recharged. This also prevents the so-called
memory effect of the battery.
For electro-chemical reasons, the charging and the capacitance are
infl uenced by the ambient temperature.
With temperatures below -5°C and above +35°C the charging process is
delayed accordingly and full charging of the battery cannot be ensured.
4.3.2
Charging
4.3.2.1
Charging battery for the fi rst time
The supplied battery set is not fully charged.
Once the mains voltage has been applied in accordance with the circuit
diagram found in the operating instructions, the battery is charged. When
connecting a new battery, the charge status indicator (fl ashing green LED)
can be delayed by several minutes. The battery reaches 90% of its rated
capacity after 14 hours
By over-dimensioning the battery capacity, a new battery can also reach
the set emergency lighting duration of 90 or 180 minutes with a rated
capacity of 90%.
When putting a battery into service for the fi rst time, it is advisable to
charge it for 72 hours nonstop at a normal ambient temperature.
After a 72 hour, nonstop power input, a cycle test is initiated automatically,
whereby the battery is discharged and recharged 3 times and the usable
battery capacity increased.
4.3.2.2
Charging during operation
The charging current during normal operation of the luminaire is calculated
in such a way that a discharged battery reaches 90% rated capacity within
14 hours and 100% rated capacity within 20 hours.
In emergency operation the battery voltage is monitored via a deep
discharge protection which prevents a deep discharge of the cells.
The microprocessor controls and re-charges any reduction of capacity due
to self-discharge in normal operation.
4.4
Emergency lighting operation
The duration of the emergency lighting can be set at 1.5 or 3 hours; see
Operating Instructions eLLK 92/eLLS08 NE (300 8000 1460) or eLLB 20
NE (300 8000 2238).
The emergency lighting mode is activated auto-matically by the function
(FT)and partial operating time test (TBT)or a mains failure, or manually by
switching off the supply voltage.
Here the emergency lighting lamp that is marked green switches over to
battery operation.

When set for 3 hour operation, for the fi rst 5 minutes the fl uorescent lamp
is operated with the increased luminous fl ux of the 1.5 mode. This is to
ensure the safe operation of the fl uorescent lamp.
5. Commissioning
Prior to initial commissioning the correct function, the correct working
order and the installation of the emergency luminaire in agreement with
these supplementary instructions and the
eLLK 92 NE/eLLS 08 NE (300 8000 1460) or
eLLB 20 NE (300 8000 2238) operating instructions, as well other
applicable stipulations are to be checked!
A cycle test according to 4.2.1 is carried out.
The battery box will be fi xed factory side at the eLLK 92/ eLLS 08 .. NIB
lighting fi tting or can be separately mounted at the front end with suitable
fi xing material.
Ensure that the connection is secure and that the degree of
protection IP 66 is maintained!
This can also be a sheet steel enclosure of the type eBB 12 NE.
The permanently affi xed connection lead with plug GHG 571 (eXLink) must

not be modifi ed or shortened (
Note: to ensure the maximum possible battery service life, full charging
must be performed after 6 months storage.
The battery is fi tted on to the plug pins and fed into the contact sockets in
the battery box. The voltage is not applied to the plug pins until contact has

been made(
