When working close to the ground, ensure that no sand, gravel or stones get entangled be-
tween the blades.
Do not touch the ground with the tip of the blade bar.
First cut the hedge laterally then on top.
Especially with larger hedges, you should not work hastily but carefully until all branches are
neatly cut back.
Clear away branches, scrub and cutting material fallen on the ground.
Do not operate the machine with damaged or worn blades.
In case of emergency, immediately switch off the machine by setting the ON-OFF switch to
position "0" (Off).
Never try to remove objects stuck in the blade bar when the engine is running.
If the blade bar strikes a foreign object or a solid object gets jammed in the blades, or if the
machine generates unusual noises or starts to vibrate, switch off the machine and wait until it
has come to a standstill. Then remove the spark plug connector. Only then can the machine be
inspected for possible defects.
Never use a rusted blade bar. This may cause serious injuries when operating the machine.
In order to reduce the risk of injuries, take regular breaks to avoid fatigue and exhaustion.
In case of nausea, headaches, visual disturbances (e.g. reduced visual field), hearing problems,
dizziness, loss of concentration, the machine must not be operated. These symptoms can be
caused by an over-concentration of exhaust fumes in the working area.
Kickback:
Kickback is a sudden reaction of the machine when the blade bar hits a solid object or when the
blade bar is blocked. This results in a sudden, uncontrolled movement of the machine.
Kickback can be avoided by observing the following precautions:
When operating the machine, be careful not to get in contact with any objects that could
o
damage the blade bar.
o
Always hold the machine by the handles with both hands and ensure a secure footing so
that you can withstand sudden kickback forces.
Always keep your hands away from the blade bar while operating the machine. There is a
o
risk of injury in case of kickback.

Safety instructions for machines with combustion engine

Do not touch the gearbox during operation or immediately after stopping the machine! These
engine parts become hot and can cause burns.
To reduce fire hazard, keep the engine and muffler free of debris, leaves and excess lubricant.
Only operate the machine outdoors (danger from carbon monoxide!). Exhaust fumes contain
odourless and colourless carbon monoxide. An exposure can cause unconsciousness and can
lead to death.
Do not smoke while operating the machine.
CAUTION: Fuel is highly flammable and its vapours represent a potential hazard of explosion!
Smoking, open flames and the operation of spark-generating electrical equipment (e.g.: weld-
ing equipment or grinding machines) are prohibited during refuelling.
Only refuel the machine in well-lit and ventilated areas, never indoors.
Do not open the fuel filler cap while the machine is running.
Do not refuel the machine when the engine is running or the engine is still hot.
Let the engine cool down for about two minutes before refuelling.
Make sure the fuel does not overflow. If fuel has spilled during the refuelling process, do not
attempt to start the machine. Instead, remove the machine from the contaminated area.
Close the fuel filler cap again after refuelling.
Ensure that no fuel leaks from the rear outlet tube.
Do not use petrol or other types of fuel or flammable solutions to clean the machine. Fuels and
solutions can ignite or explode.
Always drain the fuel tank outdoors.
Store fuel only in designated and approved containers.
Let the machine cool down before storage.
Never store the machine or the fuel container close to open flames.
