GAP BETWEEN CAPSTAN AND PINCH ROLLER DUR-
ING PAUSE IN THE RECORDING MODE—CHECK AND
ADJUSTMENT

1. Remove the cassette housing.
2. Hold down the CASSETTE
DOWN
button with
adhesive tape.
3. Press the REC button to enter the RECORDING
mode.
4. Press the PAUSE
button to enter the PAUSE
mode.
5. Check visually that the gap between the pinch
roller and capstan in this state is within the speci-
fied values (0.5 — 0.9 mm).
e Adjustment
If the gap between the pinch roller and capstan is
not within the specified values, adjust it by loosen-
ing the screws securing the shifter and shifter ad-
justment plate (XBPSD30PO5JSO) with screw-lock
adhesive.

REEL IDLER ENGAGEMENT FORCE CHECK
1. Remove the cassette housing.
2. Move the reel idler to the center as shown in Figure
12.
3. With the tension gauge, push the reel idler in the
direciton of arrow A in Figure 12 until it separates
from the reel motor pulley.
4. Gradually return the reel idler in the direction of ar-
row B in Figure 12, and check that the reading on
the tension gauge when the reel idler contacts the
reel motor is within the specified values (120 —
170g).

TENSION POLE POSITION CHECK AND AD-
JUSTMENT

Position Check
1. Load a video cassette tape and press the PLAY
button to enter the PLAY mode.
2. The pole bases (A, B) pull out the tape from in-
side the cassette, the tension pole moves to the
left and loading begins. Check the position of the
tension pole in this state.
3. Check visually that, near the end of the tape
(E-180), the center of the tension pole is 1.25 —
1.75 mm to the left of the center of the SI roller.
4. Check to see that the video tape is not curling
around or riding up onto the SI roller flange.
5. Check that the tension band is disenagaged from
the reel disk in video search.

e Position Adjustment
1. If the tension pole is less than 1.25 mm to the
left of the center of the SI roller, move the ten-
sion band adjustment angle (1) in the direction of
arrow B in figure 14 and tighten the screw (2).
2. If the tension pole is more than 1.75 mm to the
left of the center of the SI roller, move the ten-
sion band adjustment angle (1) in the direction of
arrow A in Figure 14 and tighten the screw (2).
Notes:
1. After adjustment, be sure to secure the screws
with screw-lock adhesive.
2.Do
not
overtighten
the
screws
as this may
damage the threads of the chassis.
