Features
The scattered light smoke detector MSD 523-E (Elevator) allows early
detection of smoldering and open fires with formation of smoke in lift shaft.
Inside the sensing chamber, a light source and a light sensor are arranged
such that the light beam of the light source cannot be directly incident on the
light sensor. It is only when airborne particles enter the chamber that the light
scattered by these particles reaches the sensor and is converted into an
electrical signal. If the signal values specified in the detector are exceeded, an
appropriate message is sent to the lift smoke exhaustion control panel (LiSE).
The sensitivity of the detectors was specifically adjusted to the application in
lift shafts for which reason they should not be used for room monitoring.
The MSD 523 E can generate the following messages:
• Fire alarm: smoke
• Fire alarm: smoke in revision mode
• Failure messages in revision mode (LED flashing at 1-Hz intervals): soiling,
optics failure, supply voltage failure, EEPROM storage error
• Signaling of maintenance request in revision mode (LED flashing at ¼-Hz
intervals)
