Grip the running end of rope with one hand and then with the other hand slowly open the handle to allow the rope to pass through and load to begin lowering.

Open the handle until you start to feel some pressure then slowly increase pressure as needed to start lowering. Use the combination of handle release and tailing to control the rate of descent.
