3 Alignment



3.1 Basic set-up

1. Build up the prosthesis from foot to the knee joint, apply the enclosed
tube adapter 150A3/S400 and pay attention on the knee-floor distance.
2. The axis of the knee joint must be 0 to 10 mm posterior in relation to the
alignment reference line. The alignment reference line should fall in the
area between the first and the second third of the foot length (starting
from heel). Other alignment recommendations of foot instruction manuals
should be considered!
3. Positioning of the socket: For the orientation make central marks with a
pen on the lateral socket surface in the proximal and distal area and con-
nect the marks with a line from the trim line to the end of the socket.
The central line on the socket must cross the alignment reference line in
the upper socket area (socket entrance level). An ordinary socket position
features a socket flexion from 3° to 5°. However, it is important to include
individual stump situations (contractures etc.). For positioning the socket,
please pay attention on the correct tuber-ground distance!


Only a correct alignment of the pros-
thesis allows an effective benefit from
the joint's characteristics.
For a good alignment it is helpful to
consider the angle of the stump for the
position of the socket adapter. In order
to ease defining the position of the la-
mination anchor or the socket adapter
one can draw the plumb lines in frontal
and sagittal planes starting from the hip
axis center during the casting and try
on procedure.
