1. ON/OFF control
2. disc control (see "6. Discrimination" on p. 2-3)
3. headphone socket
5. Sensitivity ON/OFF
You will hear an audio tone when you first turn this switch clockwise. This is the battery check
function : the signal confirms the presence of batteries in the device and also their strength. A
clear, sharp signal indicates the batteries are working properly. The absence of a signal or a
weak signal indicates that the batteries need to be replaced.
The sensitivity control should be set as high as ground conditions will allow. Nevertheless,
certain types of soil will force you to reduce the sensitivity somewhat in order to avoid false
signals.
6. Discrimination
Most iron objects are ignored at the lowest sensitivity setting. Increase the sensitivity and the
unit will ignore even larger pieces of aluminium paper as well as iron. At higher levels still, ring-
pulls will also be ignored. Realise, however, that at the highest settings the device will no longer
detect certain small coins and silver hammered coins.
Start searching (see "Sweeping" on page 4). The signal you receive may be caused by a silver
hammered coin, a ring-pull, etc.
Two things to remember :
1. Large iron objects can produce a signal regardless of discrimination settings, particularly if
they are located near the surface.
2. Practice with objects you have buried yourself. This will help you to discover the capabilities
of the CS2MP and its different responses.
7. Operating your CS2MP
The CS2MP only detects buried objects when the search head is moving. Check the condition
of the batteries during the search. Rechargeables give little warning of failure so make sure they
are fully charged before embarking on long searching trips or take the precaution of bringing a
fresh set of batteries.
