The blow-off line must run from the safety valve in the nominal width of the outlet cross section.
Near the exhaust line, conveniently on the safety valve itself, a sign must be provided that says
„During heating water can leak from the discharge line for safety reasons! Do not close!". Buffer
tank connection fittings must be functional and suitable; where the specified operating pressure
(even once) is exceeded, no guarantee, warranty and product liability can be undertaken.
2. Expansion Vessels
Drinking Water Circuit
According to DIN 4807-5 closed expansion vessels with membranes should be installed in
the cold water line of closed water heaters.
Extract from the German standard DIN 1988-200, 3.4.3 Pressure Shock:
The sum of the pressure shock and static pressure must not exceed the maximum working pres-
sure. The amount of positive pressure shock must not exceed 0.2 MPa when operating valves or
apparatus as measured immediately before them. The negative pressure shock must not fall below
50% of the self-adjusting flow pressure. The manufacturer of the fittings and appliances must
ensure by their design that, under normal operation, these requirements can be met.
Buffer Tank/Heating Side
According to DIN 4751 expansion vessels with membranes must be fitted in the pipe network of
closed heating systems.
3. Thermal Flow Protection
The thermal safety valve must be used in closed water tanks that are heated directly with solid fuels
(wood, briquette, charcoal).
4. Non-Return Valve
In water heaters with a nominal capacity greater than 10 litres, the installation of a non-return
valve (regardless of the type of heating) in the cold water supply line is mandatory.
5. Pressure Reducing Valve
If the pressure in the cold water supply to the water heater is greater than the operating pressure
of the system, the installation of a pressure reducing valve in the cold water supply is required
according to DIN 4753 T1.
6. Drainage
Water heaters with a nominal capacity greater than 15 litres must be completely drainable without
disassembly. A drain cock must be provided at the cold water inlet by the installer.
7. Filter
The filter (with a DIN-DVGW test mark) must be installed before the first filling of the drinking water
system and be placed immediately after the water counting system.
