ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
SAN FRANCISCO
PHOTO 1. Before going ahead with the assembly, first of all you will need to correctly identify the parts. To this end use the IP
list, which can be found in the final pages of this manual. Lightly number the different parts using a pencil.
PHOTO 2. These parts are attached to the sheets by means of small ribs. Use a cutter to separate them from their original
support sheet and then, using fine grain sandpaper, sand down the edges to eliminate any rough edges, leaving the parts ready
to paint, varnish or stain.
PHOTO 3. Glue parts 2 onto the sides of the base 1 having previously sanded them down. Use white glue. Paint the whole of
the top of the base black. Check the colour chart on the last page.
PHOTO 4. Glue a length of brass wire 4 to the lever 3 and then paint and glue this assembly onto the gear 5 and the support 6.
Paint and glue the levers 7 & 8 to the gears 9. Fit and glue to the base. Also glue the reinforcement piece 10, centred on the
hole in the platform as shown, and then the pedal 11. Paint black. Use fast-acting glue. (the green diamonds indicate the
number of parts to be used)
PHOTO 5. In order to make up the exterior benches fit and glue the side 13 and central 14 supports to the base 12. Fit and glue
the front to the front part 15 and the back to the back part 16. Use white glue. Assemble to of each of the benches with the
angle shown in step 8.
PHOTO 6. Glue the horizontal 17 and vertical 18 strips to make up the moulding on the front parts. Glue the thick crossbars 19
in place in the slots in the supports. Use white glue.
PHOTO 7. Starting with the central crossbar glue the narrower crossbars 20 into place. Use white glue. Trim off any excess.
PHOTO 8. Paint the armrests 21 and glue them into place on the straight sides of the benches. Use fast-acting glue. Paint the
back of the benches grey. Fit the benches in place at the corresponding angle on each side of the base and glue them using
white glue.
PHOTO 9. Paint one side of the front pieces 22, as shown in the image. Fit and glue them into place on the base, with the
painted side facing outwards. Fit and glue the sides 23 into place. Use white glue.
PHOTO 10. To make up the interior benches, fit and glue the side 25 and central 26 supports onto the base 24. Fit and glue the
front part 27 to the front. Use white glue.
PHOTO 11. Fit and glue the horizontal 28 and vertical 29 strips to make up the moulding on the front parts. Use white glue.
PHOTO 12. In the slots in the supports fit and glue the thick crossbars 30, using white glue.
PHOTO 13. Glue the narrower crossbars 31 into place. Use white glue. Sand these down until the surface is smooth and
uniform. Varnish the benches.
PHOTO 14. Fit and glue the benches onto the sides and then fit and glue the top side panels with gaps for the windows 32.
Varnish the inside of the cabin.
PHOTO 15. In order to fit the window panes into the windows glue the window frames 34, 35 & 36 onto the sheet of acetate.
Use transparent contact adhesive and then cut each of the windows out using a knife. Make sure the frames have been
previously varnished.
PHOTO 16. Glue the windows 34 into place on the sides. Using fast-acting glue, glue the strips of brass wire 17 onto the
windows 35, leaving a 3 mm space between each one. Glue the windows in place on the front pieces. Paint the sides. Using
white glue and then fit and glue the arches 38 into place and varnish them.
PHOTO 17. Line up the panels 39 & 40 as shown in the image and paint the lower section of panel 39 grey. Varnish the panels
40 on this side only.
PHOTO 18. Paint the other sides of the panels 39 & 40 brown and burgundy red.
PHOTO 19. Fit and glue the panels to the two ends of the cable car. Glue the windows 36, in which you have already fitted the
window panes, into place. Use white glue.
PHOTO 20. Fit and glue the base 41 onto the stubs on the panels fitted to the front pieces of the cabin and to each end of the
cable car. Use white glue.
Fit and glue in place on the base 41 the arches 42, 43 & 44. Use white glue. On the interior side of the arch 43 glue the window
pane 45, using transparent contact adhesive.
PHOTO 21. Using transparent contact adhesive glue the window panes 47 to the sides of the clerestory 46. Then, using white
glue, fit and glue the sides onto the roof. Glue a strip 48 onto the base and trim off any excess.
PHOTO 22. Using a sander, sand the strips down towards the outside, in order to create a base on which to attach the roof
lining strips. Varnish the underside of these roof lining strips 48 and glue them to the roof. Apply glue to both the roof arches and
the sides of each strip. Use pegs to hold them in place until the glue has set.
