3. INSERT INSTALLATION
Remove the screws that hold the hearth to the pallet.
INSTALLATION HEIGHT
If the combustion air is not connected, then the hearth insert must
draw cold air in from the lowest level of the room. A large layer of
cold air would stop the air from circulating.
On large fireplaces, do not raise the inserted hearth above floor
level. To achieve good distribution of heat throughout the room,
install the inserted hearth as close to the floor as possible.
Requires 2 people:
PREPARING THE EXISTING FIREPLACE
Preparation prior to installing the hearth insert: Check the
minimum insert dimensions.
Make sure the duct is compatible with the insert being installed
and check the size of the duct so that it can be marked. Check
the condition of the flue (stability, seal, material compatibility,
section, etc.); (in France; NF-DTU 24.1).
Use mechanical means to clean (and if necessary to remove)
the flue. Have a competent stove fitter install the flue lining
adapted to
wood burning and to the insert's Ø 150
male collar connection.
Provide a passage for the eventual use
of the combustion air duct. In the case of
a fireplace with a wooden beam, protect
the beam against radiation and heat. If
necessary fit a beam protection kit.
Permanently remove the plug, often
used in open-hearth fireplaces. The fan
cable (depending on model) exits from the right side of the
appliance. If necessary, provide a crush-proof passage in the
casing to accommodate the fan cable.
Check that the existing hearth floor in the fireplace is flat (level if
necessary). Install the flue lining

as per manufacturer's instructions and regulations (in France; NF-
DTU 24.1).
COMBUSTION AIR
Fresh air is essential for good combustion in the hearth. Fresh air
consumption of approximately 40m
CMV type ventilation systems, centralised vacuum systems or
kitchen extractor hoods, may interfere with the operation of the
hearth. Prioritise a direct combustion air supply connected to the
outside. An indirect (unconnected) combustion air supply in the
room is also allowed; respect the following recommendations:
Unconnected combustion air
Should the combustion air not be connected directly to the
outside via a duct, then the room must have a permanent
supply of fresh air but without it disturbing the occupants.
The outdoor air intake should face the prevailing winds and have a
minimum section of 1.2 dm², or open into ventilated crawl-space.
The section in cm² of the ventilation grille for the ventilation
chamber must be at least equal to 5 times the surface in m² of the
ventilation chamber.
A permanent outdoor air intake is not necessary if the room is
Beam
equipped with a sweep ventilation system, as long as the
supplementary air flow consumed by the appliance while
operating is taken into account.
Connected combustion air - attaching the collar
When it is possible to connect the combustion air, prepare the air
supply duct leading to the fireplace. This should have a maximum
length of 2 m, follow the most direct route (otherwise the supply of
Protection
kit
air may be insufficient), and end facing prevailing winds or a
technical vacuum. If a grille is used, ensure a minimum free
section of 1.2 dm
hearth (specific instructions).
