3) Machining (example sawing)
Now place the workpiece on the bench pins and place the guide rail on it.
Before you cut the workpiece with the set angle, please check whether the tool, e.g. the
plunge saw, can be moved over the workpiece without hitting the bench pins. If this is not
the case, adjust your set up.
Now set the desired sawing depth on the saw so that the workpiece is cut straight
through. Take the thickness of the guide rail into account (Festool = approx. 5 mm). The
fact that the saw blade saws slightly into the MDF board of the Vario-Bench worktop is
intentional and does not restrict the table. The only thing to be avoided is making too
deep an incision in the worktop. If sawing into the worktop is to be avoided for optical
reasons, it is recommended that an appropriate support is used, e.g. thin hardboard.
In most cases it is sufficient to press or pull the workpiece lightly against the bench hooks
with one hand during processing. But , depending on the workpiece (weight, surface
finish, etc.), it may be necessary that the workpiece be fastened to the table with a
suitable clamping element, e.g. a screw clamp.
When you are happy with your set-up proceed to cut the workpiece by moving the plunge
saw along the guide rail as usual.
4) Use of the oblong slots
These can be used to cut and replicate partial angles (e.g.54.7°).
To do this, it is advisable to first mark the angle on the workpiece, then roughly position
the guide rail, mount the bench pin in the nearest 5° hole to the required angle. Then
place the guide rail on it, and then turn the workpiece until the marking on the workpiece
coincides with the edge of the guide rail. Then a bench hook is pushed into the slotted
hole up to the workpiece and screwed from below.
