To do a check of the muffler
WARNING:
has a defective muffler or a muffler that is in
bad condition.
WARNING:
spark arrestor mesh on the muffler is
missing or defective.
1. Examine the muffler for damages and defects.
2. Make sure that the muffler is correctly attached to
the product. (Fig. 94)
3. If your product has a special spark arrestor mesh,
clean the spark arrestor mesh weekly. (Fig. 95)
4. Replace a damaged spark arrestor mesh.
CAUTION:
blocked the product becomes too hot and
this causes damage to the cylinder and
piston.
To change a broken or worn starter
cord
1. Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the
crankcase and remove the starter. (Fig. 96)
2. Pull out the cord approximately 30 cm (12 inch) and
hook it into the notch in the rim of the pulley.
Release the recoil spring by letting the pulley rotate
slowly backwards. (Fig. 97)
3. Remove the screw in the centre of the pulley and
remove the drive disc (A), drive disc spring (B) and
the pulley (C).
WARNING:
is wound up in the starter housing it is
under tension and can, if handled
carelessly, pop out and cause personal
injury. Care must be exercised when you
replace the return spring or the starter
cord. Wear protective glasses and
protective gloves.
4. Insert and fasten a new starter cord to the pulley.
Wind approximately 3 turns of the starter cord onto
the pulley.
5. Connect the pulley to the recoil spring so that the
end of the recoil spring (D) engages in the pulley.
6. Assemble the drive disc spring (B) and drive disc
(A). Fit the screw in the centre of the pulley.
7. Insert the starter cord through the hole in the starter
housing and the starter handle. Make a secure knot
in the end of the starter cord. (Fig. 98)

1. Lift up the starter pulley. See instructions under the

2. Remove the cassette with the recoil spring from the
starter.
WARNING:
recoil spring is coiled under tension in
the starter housing!
3. Lubricate the recoil spring with light oil and fit the
cassette with recoil spring in the starter.
4. Fit the starter pulley and tension the recoil spring. To

To change a broken drive disc spring
1. Undo the screw in the centre of the pulley.
2. Remove the drive disc and the drive disc spring.
3. Replace the drive disc spring.
4. Fit the drive disc above the spring. (Fig. 99)
To tension the recoil spring
1. Hook the starter cord in the notch in the pulley.
2. Turn the starter pulley about 2 turns clockwise.
Note:
Make sure that the pulley can be turned at
least a 1/2 turn further when the starter cord is pulled
all the way out.

3. Stretch the line using the starter handle.
4. Move your thumb and release the line. (Fig. 101)

1. Pull out the starter cord and place the starter in
position against the crankcase.
2. Slowly release the starter cord so that the pulley
engages with the pawls.
3. Tighten the screws that hold the starter.
