Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einbau in einen PCI-Slot eines PC-kompatiblen Com-
puter vorgesehen und stellt dort 1394-Schnittstellen zur Verfügung (1394a
und 1394b).

Einbau
Falls Sie keine Fachkenntnisse für den Einbau besitzen, so
lassen Sie den Einbau von einer FACHKRAFT oder einer
entsprechenden Fachwerkstatt durchführen!
Durch unsachgemäßen Einbau wird sowohl die Steckkarte
als auch Ihr Computer und alle angeschlossenen Geräte be-
schädigt.
Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Schalten Sie den Computer, in den das Produkt eingebaut
werden soll und alle angeschlossenen Geräte aus und tren-
nen Sie alle Geräte von der Netzspannung, ziehen Sie den
Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten über den Ein-/Ausschalter
genügt nicht!
• Öffnen Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers und nehmen Sie den Gehäu-
sedeckel vorsichtig ab.
• Entfernen Sie ein Slotblech und stecken Sie die 1394-Karte in einen
freien PCI-Steckplatz, schrauben Sie sie fest. Kontrollieren Sie, ob die
Steckkarte richtig im Steckplatz sitzt.
• Der 3.5"-Stromanschluss auf der PCI-Karte muss mit dem PC-Netzteil
verbunden werden, wenn Sie externe 1394-Geräte ohne eigene Strom-
versorgung einsetzen (z.B. 1394-Kameras oder 1394-Kartenleser).
Falls Sie nur 1394-Geräte mit eigener Stromversorgung anschlie-
ßen (z.B. externe Festplatten usw.), so braucht der Stroman-
schluss nicht mit dem PC-Netzteil verbunden wer den.
• Verschließen Sie das Gehäuse Ihres Computers.
• Verbinden Sie alle Geräte mit der Netzspannung und schalten Sie sie
ein.
• Startet der Computer nicht korrekt, so schalten Sie ihn sofort aus und
kontrollieren Sie sämtliche Einstellungen und Kabelverbindungen.
Vor dem erneuten Öffnen des PCs ist der PC von der Netz-
spannung zu trennen, siehe oben!
Treiber-Installation
Nach dem Start von Windows 98SE/ME/XP findet die Hardwareerkennung
die 1394-Karte. Folgen Sie allen Anweisungen von Windows.
Möglicherweise ist danach ein Neustart erforderlich, bevor 1394-Geräte
einwandfrei funktionieren.
Tips & Hinweise
• Für eine vollständige Unterstützung der 1394-Schnittstelle müssen Sie
mindestens „Windows 98 (Zweite Ausgabe)" verwenden.
• Der 1394-Standard erlaubt es, Geräte während des Betriebs ein- und
auszustecken (so wie z.B. wie bei USB-Geräten). Sind jedoch Dateien
geöffnet und Sie ziehen den 1394-Stecker heraus, so kann es zu Daten-
verlust kommen.
Bei Windows erscheint bei externen Laufwerken normalerweise ein
„Pfeil" in der Menüleiste. Über diese Funktion kann man angeschlossene
Geräte/Laufwerke „trennen", dem PC also mitteilen, dass man ein Gerät
abstecken will. Dabei werden alle offenen Dateien geschlossen.
• Beim Anschluss von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann
Windows u.U. abstürzen, wenn die Kamera bei laufender Vi-
deoschnittsoftware ausgeschaltet wird bzw. der Akku leer wird. Dabei
kann es sehr leicht zu Datenverlust kommen.
Schalten Sie deshalb die Kamera erst nach dem Herunterfahren von
Windows aus und verwenden Sie beim Videoschnitt ein Netzteil für die
Kamera.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über
den 1394-Anschluss möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die
Anleitung zu Ihrer Digital-Video-Kamera.
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei
denen die Aufnahme lt. Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Pro-
gramme möglicherweise einen „Schreibschutzfehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie
testweise eine hochwertigere MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmli-
chen ME-Cassette. Die Codierung der Cassette wird u.U. vom Vi-
deoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewertet.
• Das Partitionieren und Formatieren einer neuen „leeren" Festplatte ist
bei Windows XP über die Computerverwaltung sehr leicht möglich.
Bei Windows ME/98SE ist dazu die MSDOS-Eingabeaufforderung zu
starten und die MSDOS-Befehle „FDISK" und „FORMAT" zu nutzen.
• Für 1394-Geräte ohne eigenes Netzteil (z.B. Firewire-Kameras oder
Firewire-Kartenleser) liefert die 1394-Karte den Strom. Dazu ist auf der
PCI-Karte ein 3.5"-Stromanschluss vorhanden.
Werden 1394-Geräte mit höherem Strombedarf angeschlossen, so muss
für das 1394-Gerät eine separate Stromversorgung verwendet werden
(z.B. 1394-Festplatten/CD-Brenner usw.).
• Die beiden 1394b-Buchsen sind „bilingual". Das bedeutet, dass mittels
entsprechenden Kabeln sowohl „alte" 1394a-Geräte als auch moderne
„1394b"-Geräte angeschlossen werden können.

Prescribed Use
The product is intended for the installation into a PCI slot of a PC compatible
computer and provides 1394 interfaces (1394a and 1394b).

Installation
When in doubt about how to install the device correctly,
please contact an expert or a specialist workshop and let
them do the installation!
Improper installation damages the plug-in card as well as
your computer and all connected devices.
Danger!
Switch off the computer (or external housing) in which the
product is to be installed and all connected devices and
separate all devices from the mains voltage, pull the mains
plug! To switch the device off via the ON/OFF switch is not
enough!
• Open the housing of your computer and carefully take off the lid of the
housing.
• Remove a slot cover sheet and insert the 1394 card into a empty PCI
slot, screw it tight. Control if the plug-in card sits properly in the slot.
• The 3.5" power supply terminal on the PCI card needs to be connected
with the PC power supply unit if you are using external 1394 devices
without their own power supply (eg 1394 cameras or 1394 card readers).
If you only connect 1394 devices with their own power supply (eg
external hard disks etc.), the power supply terminal does not
need to be connected with the PC power supply unit.
• Close the housing of your computer.
• Connect all devices with mains voltage and switch them on.
• If the computer does not start correctly, switch it off straight away and
control all stettings and cable connections.
Before you open the PC again, the PC needs to be separated
from the mains voltage, see above!
Driver Installation
After starting Windows 98SE/ME/XP the hardware detection will find the
1394 card. Follow all instructions of Windows.
It might be necessary to restart before 1394 devices work properly.
Tips & Notes
• To completely support the 1394 interface you need use at least
„Windows 98 (Second Edition)".
• The 1394 standard permitts the device to be hot swappable (just like
USB devices). However, if files are opened and you pull out the 1394
plug, data may be lost.
With Windows an „arrow" normally appears in the menu bar with external
drives. Via this function connected devices/drives can be „separated",
telling the PC that you want to disconnect a device. Doing this all open
files will be closed.
• When connecting digital video cameras with a 1394 connection,
Windows might crash when the camera is switched off whilst the video
cutting software is running or the battery is running out. This can easily
cause loss of data.
This is why you should only switch off the camera after shutting down
Windows and you should use a power supply unit for the camera during
video cutting.
• With some digital video cameras it is only possible to playback videos via
the 1394 connection, but no recording. Pay attention to the instructions
of your digital video camera.
• During the recording on video on so called digital 8 video camaras
(where recording is possible, as stated in the instructios) the video
cutting programmes may possibly report a „write protection error" or
similar.
This can be put down to the video tape used. To check this out, use a
high-quality MP cassette instead of a conventional ME cassette. The
coding of the cassette might be incorrectly evaluated by the video cutting
programme.
• Partitioning and formatting of a new „empty" hard disk is very easily
carried out with Windows XP via the computer administration.
With Windows ME/98SE the MSDOS prompt is to be started and the
MSDOS commands „FDISK" and „FORMAT" are to be used.
• For 1394 devices without their own power supply unit (eg firewire
cameras or firewire card readers) the 1394 card supplies the power. For
this purpose there is a 3.5" power supply terminal available on the PCI
card.
If 1394 devices with a higher current demand are connected, then a
separate power supply will need to be used for the 1394 device (eg 1394
hard disks/CD writers etc.).
• The two 1394b sockets are „bilingual". This means that with the
appropriate cables "old" 1394a devices can be connected as well as
modern „1394b" devices.
