Observe the safety information provided in section
chapter 2, "Important Safety Information" on page 2.
NOTE
In addition to the user manual and installation manual,
follow and comply with the local regulations relating to
operation, installation and environmental protection.
5.1

Installation considerations

When choosing the installation location for the Ford Con-
nected Wall Box, make sure that the location allows the
charging cable to reach the vehicle charge port without
straining the cable. See Fig. 19 on the inside of the back
cover.
You must also make sure that:
– if you are installing more than one Ford Connected Wall
Box, then you must minimally leave 200 mm (7.9 inches)
in between.
– The bottom of the Ford Connected Wall Box is installed
at least 900 mm (35 inches) above floor level.
– the mounting surface is solid and strong.
– the mounting surface is completely flat.
– the mounting surface and its surroundings do not have
any flammable substances.
– the pavements and escape routes are not obstructed.
– you have fault-free Wi-Fi reception if you want to remote
control the charger through the Ford backend.
– the Ford Connected Wall Box is outdoor-rated, however
for locations in intense climates you may want to shield
the unit from intense direct sunlight and spray to extend
its useful life and fault-free operation.
5.2

Criteria for electrical connection

The Ford Connected Wall Box type label indicates the max-
imum charging current that can be configured. The type la-
bel on the Ford Connected Wall Box is located on the right.
The power availability at the service connection determines
the maximum permitted charging current. A qualified elec-
trician must make the necessary settings in the configura-
tion. They must also verify the prerequisites for connection.
6
The installation must comply with the nationally applicable
regulations of authorities and power supply companies, such
as the registration of the installation of a wall box . All pro-
tective devices specified must be designed in such a way
that every power supply pole of the Ford Connected Wall
Box is disconnected if a fault occurs. You must meet na-
tional installation regulations and standards when selecting
the protective device.
NOTE
Do not install a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter).

Set IT grid (terre isolé)
1
Set TT (terre terre) or TN grid (terre neutral)
Check national requirements for connection to a TN
network. The Ford Connected Wall Box does not com-
ply with BS7671 for connection to TN networks in the
United Kingdom.

NOTE
When set to '0', switch 5 deactivates ground-monitoring
to enable use in an IT network.
NOTE
The wall box supports automatic phase detection.

5.2.2 Residual Current Protective Device
(RCD)
National installation regulations generally apply. Unless
these regulations specify otherwise, each Ford Connected
Wall Box must be protected by an appropriate residual cur-
rent device (RCD) with a trip current of ≤ 30 mA. The Ford
Connected Wall Box incorporates a residual direct current
monitoring device (RDC-MD) according to IEC 62955 and
therefore, using an RCD Type A in the installation is suffi-
cient. The rated residual current of the Type-A RCD in the in-
stallation must not be greater than 30 mA (AC).

5.2.3 Dimensioning the circuit breaker

The circuit breaker must conform to IEC 60898. The let-
through energy (I²t) must not exceed a maximum 80,000
A²s. Alternatively, a residual current circuit breaker combina-
tion (RCBO) in accordance with EN 61009-1 may be used.
The previously mentioned parameters apply to this circuit
breaker combination.

5.2.4 Mains isolation device

The Ford Connected Wall Box does not have its own main
ON/OFF switch. The protective devices installed in the
power supply system are therefore also used to disconnect
the Ford Connected Wall Box.
5.2.5 Dimensioning the lead's cross
section
A qualified electrician must determine the conductor's cross
section, see Technical data.
The conductor cross section of the lead depends on:
