4.4 Computer

Via the USB jack
transmitted in both directions between powered
mixer and computer:
– Use as an input:
The data fed in via the USB jack can be
switched to the MAIN MIX sum [
2-TR / USB TO MAIN (40)] and be monitored
via headphones / control room monitor system
[
button 2-TR / USB (28)].
– Use as an output:
The USB jack sends the MAIN MIX sum signal.
Note about the full duplex operation: During a
recording via the USB jack it is possible to monitor the
input signals of the USB jack via headphones or a con-
trol room monitor system (e. g. to check the recording).
However, it is not possible at the same time to
switch input signals of the USB jack to the MAIN MIX
sum and to make a recording via the USB jack, as the
USB jack does not send an output signal as soon as
the button 2-TR / USB TO MAIN (40) is engaged.
1) Boot up the computer and switch on the
powered mixer via the POWER switch (50).
2) Connect the USB jack (type B) via a USB
cable (e. g. USB-203AB from MONACOR) to
a USB port at the computer. After connection,
the USB interface is recognized as an exter-
nal USB unit, depending on the operating
system e. g. as "USB Audio CODEC" or "USB
Audio Device". The required drivers (stan-
dard drivers of the operating system) are
automatically installed.
Note: If not all drivers required are available on the
computer, they have to be installed, e. g. via the
original CD of the operating system. If necessary,
restart the computer after the installation.
3) Call the reproducing / recording program used
and make the required adjustments for the
audio reproduction via the mixer or audio
recording from the mixer (
program). The powered mixer can be oper-
ated according to chapter 5.
If no sound can be heard, check the following
audio adjustments of the operating system of the
computer:
– audio input and output must be correctly
assigned:
For data transmission from the computer to
the powered mixer the USB interface of the
powered mixer must be selected as the device
for playback (device for the audio output).
For data transmission from the powered mixer
to the computer the USB interface of the
powered mixer must be selected as the device
for recording (device for the audio input).
– The sound must be switched on.
– The corresponding volume controls must not
be set to minimum.
Hint: If the powered mixer is connected to a computer
and to units which are earthed via their mains cable
(e. g. amplifier), hum interference may occur due to
ground loops. To eliminate them, the powered mixer
may be connected via a ground separator (e. g. FGA-
102 or FGA-202 from the product range of "img Stage
Line") to the respective unit.
4.5 Headphone / control room

monitor system

Via stereo headphones and/or via a monitor sys-
tem in a separate control room it is possible to
monitor:
– the input channels ("PFL" and "SOLO" modes)
– the Aux send ways
– the input signal of the jacks CD / TAPE INPUT
(18) and of the USB jack (46)
– the sum signal ALT 3 – 4
– the sum signal MAIN MIX

Detailed information about the monitoring func-
tions can be found in chapter 5.6.
(46) the audio data can be
Connect the headphones (impedance ≥ 8 Ω) to
the 6.3 mm jack PHONES (23). Connect the
amplifier of the monitor system to the output
CONTROL ROOM OUT (54); the 6.3 mm jacks
for the left (L) channel and the right (R) channel
button
are unbalanced.

4.6 Monitor system for musicians

When using a monitor system for PA stage appli-
cation, the Aux send way 1 can be used as a
monitor way. The signal pick-up for an Aux send
way used as a monitor way is usually pre-fader,
i. e. the channel signal is added to the Aux send
way ahead of the fader (15). Thus, the musicians
receive a separately mixed music signal via the
stage monitors. The Aux send way 1 can be
switched "pre-fader" for each input channel by
pressing the buttons PRE (8).
Connect the amplifier of the monitor system
or an active monitor system via a 6.3 mm plug to
the mono output jack AUX SEND 1 (17).

4.7 Additional amplifier / second mixer

The stereo sum signal MAIN MIX is available at
two outputs MAIN OUTPUTS (51): at the XLR
jacks and at the 6.3 mm jacks (L = left channel,
R = right channel). All jacks MAIN OUTPUTS are
balanced. To one of the outputs e. g. an addi-
tional amplifier for PA application in a hall may
be connected. The second output can be used
additionally, e. g. for another unit with line input.
At the output ALT 3 – 4 OUTPUTS (53) the
stereo sum signal of the channels of which the
buttons MUTE ALT 3 – 4 (11) are engaged are
available: ALT 3 for the left channel, ALT 4 for
the right channel. The 6.3 mm jacks are unbal-
anced. The master channels ALT 3 – 4 can be
manual of the
used as an alternative or in addition to the main
master channels MAIN MIX. They offer e. g. the
possibility to pass on the stereo sum signal of a
group of audio sources (e. g. the microphones
for the drums) to a second mixer or to feed it as
a subgroup signal via a free line input to the
MAIN MIX sum.

4.8 Speakers

Connect the speakers to the jacks or screw ter-
minals SPEAKER OUTPUT (52). The highest
output power is reached when connecting 4 Ω
speakers (minimum permissible load imped-
ance). It is also possible to connect 8 Ω speakers,
however, this will slightly reduce the output
power.
— If the jacks are used, turn the corresponding
speaker plug clockwise after inserting it into
the jack until it locks into place. To remove it
later, pull back the latch lock at the plug and
turn the plug counter-clockwise.
— If the screw terminals are used, make sure
that the cable ends are not stripped too much
and no bare wires stick out, otherwise there is
a hazard of contact and short circuit!
4.9 Momentary action foot pedal
To switch the internal effect processor on and
off, a momentary action foot pedal, e. g. FS-60
from MONACOR, can be connected to the
6.3 mm jack FX FOOTSW (22).
For console illumination a gooseneck light
(12 V /400 mA max.) may be connected to the
BNC jack LAMP (24), e. g. the LED light GNL-
204 from "img Stage Line". The light is switched
on and off together with the mixer.

4.10 Power supply

Connect the supplied mains cable to the mains
jack (49) and the mains plug to a socket
(230 V~/50 Hz).

5 Operation

CAUTION Never adjust the speakers and the
headphones to a very high volume.
Permanent high volumes may
damage your hearing! The human
ear will get accustomed to high
volumes which do not seem to be
that high after some time. There-
fore, do not further increase a high
volume after getting used to it.

5.1 Switching on and off

1) To prevent switching noise and a volume
which is too high, set the following output
controls to minimum prior to operation:
– MAIN MIX (45)
– ALT 3 – 4 (31)
– PHONES / CTRL R (39)
– AUX SEND 1 (25) when the Aux send way 1
is used as a monitor way.
2) Depending on the microphone type con-
nected, either switch on or off the 48 V phan-
tom power with the switch PHANTOM
POWER (47) [
chapter 4.1.1].
3) To switch the powered mixer on and off, actu-
ate the mains switch POWER (50). With the
unit switched on, the POWER LED (41) lights
up.

5.2 Level control of the input channels

The following steps merely serve as an aid, also
other ways of proceeding are possible.
As a basic setting, prior to level adjustment of the
input channels, first
– in all mono input channels, turn the controls
TRIM (4), the equalizer controls (6) and the
controls PAN (10) to mid-position and disen-
gage the buttons LOW CUT (3).
– in all stereo input channels disengage the but-
tons LEVEL (5), turn the equalizer controls (6)
and the controls BAL (10) to mid-position.
– in all input channels fully turn back the controls
AUX (7) and FX (9) for the Aux send ways.
– fully turn back the controls AUX RETURN 1
(35) and AUX RETURN 2 (37) and disengage
the button 2-TR / USB TO MAIN (40).
– disengage all buttons MUTE ALT 3 – 4 (11).
– disengage all SOLO buttons (14, 26) and set
all channel faders (15) to minimum.
1) Feed an audio signal (test signal or music
piece) to the first channel used.
2) To hear the signal via the connected speak-
ers, advance the fader (15) of the channel up
to position "0" and advance the MAIN MIX
master faders (45) so that the signal can be
heard well. However, the signal can also be
monitored with the faders closed via head-
phones or a control room monitor system
chapter 5.6.
3) Press the button SOLO (14) of the channel.
Thus, the monitoring function for the channel
is switched on, the LED CLIP (13) lights up as
an indication.
4) Press the button MODE (44) to select the
monitoring mode "PFL", the green LED PFL
above the button lights up. In the "PFL" mode
