16. CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Regular care and maintenance of the wheelchair are absolutely essential, not only from the point
of view of hygiene, but also for your own safety and that of others. By using the best possible mate-
rials and the most modern raw materials, we have succeeded in limiting the amount of care and
maintenance to a minimum.
Warning: Negligent or careless care and maintenance of your wheelchair reduces the liability of the
manufacturer.
Care
Cushions, plastic covers and wheels:
These can be cleaned using warm water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaning product. Dry well after
cleaning. Never use a (high-pressure) spray; any water that gets into the electronics can cause serious
damage.
Disinfecting:
To disinfect the cushions use a 1% solution of Lyorthol or Desogeen. Rinse well with water. Then dry
well.
Frame:
The correct brand-name cleaning products should be used to clean the enamelled steel frame com-
ponents.
If there is any damage to the frame, touch it up immediately with transparent varnish (aerosol)
before rust (corrosion) can start. Frame parts that slide along one another should be lubricated regu-
larly with a drop of oil or Vaseline.
Tires:
Regularly check the tire pressure. Ensure that tire pressure is correct and the same on both sides.
Front tires 2.5 bar and back tires: 2.5 bar
If the tire pressure is too low:
- resistance is increased and more energy is used.
If the tire pressure is unequal:
- the wheelchair pulls to one side.
Regularly check the condition of the tires (for wear and tears).
Always protect the valves from dust with the valve covers.
Caution: However, the maximum tire pressure should never be exceeded.
Batteries
In principle, the batteries are maintenance-free. The most important thing to remember is to char-
ge them regularly, thus keeping them in optimum condition.
However, take care that the batteries remain clean and dry.
General condition of the MINOS POWER:
A wheelchair that is poorly maintained and in a neglected state usually suffers wear and tear and
technical faults, which are not recognised in time and which reduce safety. Regular care and main-
tenance increases safety and lengthens the life of the wheelchair.
Maintenance
For the sake of safety and to prevent accidents resulting from wear and tear that is not recognised
on time, it is important to have the MINOS POWER serviced every six months by an official MINOS
dealer. The following checklist for semi-annual maintenance is only a guideline when carrying out a
maintenance service.
In order to achieve the highest possible level of safety in all situations with the greatest possible
