WARNING!
Clutch applications for 12 (±1) mm HC³ may be suitable for Mineral oil application –
please refer to the reservoir cover in this instance. Any master cylinder designed for
use with mineral oil cannot use brake fluid and should only employ MAGURA Blood or
MAGURA Royal Blood oil. If you are unsure which version clutch master cylinder you
have – all – versions for use exclusively with mineral oil are stamped with an "M" to
indicate this. If your cylinder does not have an "M" stamped into the exterior of the main
cylinder housing then it is only suitable for use with brake fluid.
Do not attempt to disassemble or modify this master cylinder in any way. Should you require technical
assistance please see Service section on page 14.
Ensure that the brake system is fully bled and sealed before any road or track testing. Changes to the
original hydraulic ratio on the motorcycle may result in changes to the brake feel and pressure point.
Please ride carefully until you are familiar with the characteristics of this brake master cylinder. Following
changes to the lever ratio the same situation applies – please take the necessary time to familiarise
yourself with this master cylinder.

Changing the Lever Ratio

To change the lever ratio please remove the locknut below the lever retaining bolt using an 8mm socket.
Then unsecure and remove the lever retaining bolt (Torx T25) with the red indicator disk – when removing
the bolt please hold the lever securely to avoid it falling. By reinserting the retaining bolt in another hole
and carefully working the retaining bolt through the reciprocal hole in the lever actuator you will increase
or decrease the mechanical lever ratio (see pic.2 on page 15). Please be aware that changes to the mechanical
lever ratio will affect the braking pressure required at the lever. It may be necessary to change the lever
positioning (reach adjust) setting in order to ensure that an optimal and safe braking function is available
to the rider at all times.
IMPoRTANT – PLEASE NoTE: Ensure before re-installing the lever retaining bolt that the piston
push rod is installed in the spherical cap and that the 3 holes in the master housing and lever base
plate are properly aligned. The lever retaining bolt should only be tightened with 0.5 Nm. Now
activate the lever in both directions and ensure that there is no resistance to travel. When the lever
is released it must return to the off position in a steady and positive travel. Only when this has been
verified - the safety lock nut should be installed with 3 Nm. As before the lever travel should again
be checked for any resistance to travel. In the event of resistance the tightening torque of the lever
retaining bolt should be reduced slightly and the procedure repeated.
The HC³ has been designed in such a way that the mechanical ratio steps employed mimic a 1 mm increase
or decrease in hydraulic piston diameter. As a result the HC³ offers the option to simulate 3 different piston
diameters depending on your adjustment of the point of support. Following a lever ratio adjustment
please ensure that the pressure point is suitable and ride carefully until you re-familiarise yourself with
the characteristics of the brake master cylinder.
