INSTALLATIoN INSTRUCTIoNS
Following the clamping process check once again that the lever can be fully operated to the bar grip
without contacting anything which may impede the correct operation.
Then turn the handlebar fully left to right to ensure that the master cylinder does not contact any items
on the motorcycle which may impede the steering or control.
A banjo bolt has been included for use with your HC³ master cylinder to enable a secure connection
between the brake line and the master cylinder – thread size = M10 x 1. The gasket ring washers should
be replaced every time the banjo connector is removed and reinstalled. For the initial installation 2 new
gasket ring washers are included. The specified torque setting for the banjo connector is 15 Nm. Should
you require a banjo connector for 2 brake lines this must be purchased separately – please see spare
parts list on page 9.
Brake Switch
The brake switch is installed on your brake master cylinder and may be removed if not required. In the
event that the switch is re-installed at a later date it may be prudent to use retaining fluid on the screws at
the installation. Please ensure when tightening the screws that the switch is correctly positioned to ensure
the activation of the switch within the first 10° degrees of lever movement.
Tightening Torque = 0.2 Nm
Clutch Switch
The clutch switch is installed on your clutch master cylinder and may be removed if not required. In the
event that the switch is re-installed at a later date it may be prudent to use retaining fluid on the screws
at the installation. The clutch switch is activated by the M4 bolt which should be connected to the lever
activation plate. Tightening Torque = 1 Nm. Please ensure when tightening the screws that the switch is
correctly positioned to ensure the activation of the switch when the clutch is activated and separated.
The clutch switch should not activate before the clutch has fully separated (more than 2/3 of the lever
travel). Tightening Torque = 0.2 Nm (see pic.4 on page 15).
filling and Bleeding the HC³
WARNING: Filling and bleeding brake systems should only be carried out in a clean environment. Use
only fresh brake fluid from a sealed container. Brake fluid is highly corrosive and should immediately
be flushed with water following any spills during the filling and bleeding procedure. If you are unsure
please contact a suitably qualified motorcycle technician or contact our technical support.
When the master cylinder has been installed and the full handlebar movement from left to right has been
verified with any contact issues – you are now ready to fill and bleed the system for use. In order for the
air to evacuate during the bleeding procedure it is important that the master cylinder is slightly forward
inclined from the horizontal position (as would be its natural riding position). If the braking system has
been completely emptied please fill according to the manufacturers instructions. For this instruction we
are assuming that the calliper is filled with brake fluid and the brake line and master cylinder are empty.
It may then be necessary using a syringe and hose to fill the brake line by injecting fluid into the calliper
bleed screw. Then fill the reservoir with brake fluid and open the bleed nipple at the master cylinder as
shown in picture 3 on page 15 while operating the lever. Close the bleed nipple and release the lever.
Begin to operate the lever and open the bleed nipple. Repeat this procedure until a firm and constant
pressure point has been achieved. Then tighten the bleed nipple to the specified torque setting and your
brake is ready to check. Tightening Torque = 5 Nm (see pic.3 on page 15).
This product has been designed to use Brake fluid DoT 4 or DoT 5.1.
