Lay chainsaw on placement surface 24 and in-
stall guide rail with chain at guide 5 /chain ten-
sioning bolts 14 . Run the chain around drive
sprocket 13 , then inspect to verify that the chain
is installed correctly.
Fit cover plate 16 and secure lightly with Allen
bolts 17 .
The chain must now be correctly tensioned.
Always remove the plug from the electri-
cal outlet before working on the unit!

Tensioning the Chain

Wear protective gloves!
After chain lubrication, it is the chain tension
which exerts the greatest influence on the life ex-
pectancy of the chain and its support assembly.
Return the chainsaw to the normal operating po-
sition (see illustration).
Use Allen wrench 26 to turn chain tensioning
screw 6 to the right until the chain is tensioned
properly. Be sure to push upward on guide rail
while tightening bolts 17 .
The chain tension is correctly adjusted when
the cold chain can be raised approx. 3-4 mm from
the guide rail, with the unit being lifted from the ta-
ble as in the illustration (arrows).
Tighten down Allen bolt 17 firmly.
When it warms, the chain stretches and becomes
slack, resulting in the risk of it jumping from its
track. If the chain is retensioned when warm, then
it is essential that it be re-adjusted once work has
been completed, as failure to retension would re-
sult in the chain being subjected to substantial
stresses as it contracts during cooling.
A new chain will require a running-in period of ap-
prox. 5 minutes. Adequate lubrication is of partic-
ular importance during this process! After run-
ning-in, check the tension of the chain and adjust
as required.

Chain Lubrication

Always remove the plug from the electri-
cal outlet before working on the unit!
To guard against excessive wear, the chain and
guide rail must be evenly lubricated during opera-
tion. This operation is performed by the Bosch
automatic lubrication system.
Never use the chainsaw unless the chain lu-
brication is operating. Allowing the chain to run
dry will quickly result in extensive damage to the
entire chain and guide unit. It is thus essential
that chain lubrication and oil level be checked be-
fore every use.
Filling oil reservoir
Open reservoir cover 3 . Taking care that no dirt
gets into the reservoir. Fill the reservoir with the
oil supplied. Retighten the filler cap 3 . Set auto-
matic lubrication adjusting screw 24 for large
drops. While sawing, periodically consult oil
level gauge 23 . Refill the reservoir as soon as the
minimum mark is reached.
Depending upon the temperature, type of oil, and
the setting of the automatic oiler, a single oil filling
will be sufficient for between 15 and 30 minutes of
operation.
Chain lubricant
The service life of the chain and guide rail are
largely dependent on the quality of the lubricating
oil.
Use of waste oil is not approved! Lubricating
with used oil invalidates the warranty.
Always use environmentally-compatible chain-
saw oil. (1 l, Order-No. 2 607 000 181 - Acces-
sory)
Chainsaw oil should be stored exclusively in the
correct approved containers.
Automatic lubrication system
Outside temperature and the quality of the oil be-
ing used may make it necessary to adjust the flow
rate by turning the automatic adjusting screw 24
for more (large drops) or less (small drops) chain-
saw oil.
Settings for automatic lubrication system:
Outside temperature
+5 °C ... +40 °C
+5 °C ... –20 °C
System setting
small drops
large drops
