For Your Safety

Working safely with this ma-
chine is possible only when the
operating and safety information
are read completely and the in-
structions contained therein are
strictly followed. In addition, the
general safety instructions in
the enclosed booklet must be
followed
Obtain professional advice for
information on practical applica-
tion!
If the cable is damaged or cut
through while working, do not touch
the cable but immediately pull the
mains plug. Never use the machine
with a damaged cable.
Children and youths are not permitted to oper-
ate the chain saw. An exception to this rule are
youths over 16 years that are being trained un-
der supervision. Loan the saw only to persons
who are familiar with this type of saw and with
the handling of chain saws in general. In all
cases, include the operating instructions!
Only those who are well rested and healthy,
i.e., in good physical condition may work with
the chain saw. If you become tired while work-
ing, take a break.
The chain saw must be operated by only one
person. The presence of additional persons in
the pivoting area of the chain saw is prohibited.
Pay special attention to children and animals.
Connect machines that are used in the open
via a residual current circuit breaker with a trig-
gering current of 30 mA maximum. Use only
extension cables that are intended for outdoor
use and are protected against splash water.
Always direct the cable to the rear away from
the machine.
Each time before beginning work, check the
chain saw for flawless functioning and safe op-
erating condition.
The electrical cable should always be routed to
the rear of the operator.
Take a secure stance before switching on the
chain saw. Apply the chain saw to the wood
only when switched on and firmly against the
stopper spikes. Sawing when the wood is not
against the spikes can cause one to be jerked
forward.
Practice the handling of the chain saw by cut-
ting off round wood on a saw horse.
12
Working on a ladder, in a tree or other unstable
locations is not permitted. Do not saw above
shoulder height and not with one hand.
Never saw on the top side or the tip of the cut-
ter bar.
If several cuts are to be made with the chain
saw, the saw must be switched off between the
cuts.
Pull the chain saw out of the wood only with the
saw chain running.
If the machine is not used for a short time, put
it down somewhere so that it cannot be a dan-
ger to anyone.
Wear gloves to protect against injury from the
sharp cutting edge as well as during mounting,
clamping and the final checking,
Before transporting the chain saw, pull the
mains plug and slide the chain protector over
the cutter bar and chain.
Always switch off the machine and allow to
come to a stop before putting down.
Bosch can assure flawless functioning of
the machine only when original accesso-
ries are used.
Installation of Guide Rail and
Chain
Always remove the plug from the electri-
cal outlet before working on the unit!
To prevent the sharp cutting edges
from causing injury, always wear
gloves when assembling as well as
during tensioning and subsequent
inspection.
Guide rail and chain are supplied detached. To
assemble, begin by unscrewing Allen bolts 17
and removing cover plate 16 .
For further assembly chain tensioning bolt 14
must be centred on guide 5 . Chain tensioning
screw 6 can be used to increase tension on chain
tensioning bolts.
Note the cutting direction of the teeth before
proceeding to install the guide rail and
chain!
The direction of rotation is indicated by an ar-
row 12 on the unit. Where necessary turn the
chain around to determine the direction.
Hold guide rail 8 vertically with the leading edge
upmost and install chain 7 , starting at the tip of
the guide rail.
Now proceed to install guide rail and chain as fol-
lows:
