RES
Setting the output resolution.
This button is used to set the picture output of the
VSP 1250 R to match the resolution and geometry of
your video monitor.
The resolution matching process only has to be
carried out once to suit your video monitor; after
this you will not need to make changes for
normal operations.
It is important to avoid changing this setting
accidentally, and for this reason the function
cannot be accessed by remote control.
Before you can set the resolution correctly you must refer
to the operating instructions supplied with your video
monitor, and establish its native resolution (e.g. 720p =
1280 x 720 dots).
Press the RES button repeatedly until the currently set
resolution appears on the front panel display. You can
now set the desired output resolution with repeated brief
presses of the RES button.
The following output resolutions are available:
a) Normalised (SMPTE) resolutions

When the appropriate resolution appears on the display,
hold the RES button pressed in to activate this resolution
- the appropriate LED lights up on the display to confirm
this.
Caution:
Many monitors cannot reproduce all the
resolutions which the VSP 1250 R offers.
If you set the output resolution incorrectly,
you may find that your monitor displays no
picture, or only a badly distorted one. If this
should happen, you should immediately
switch the VSP 1250 R back to a resolution
which your monitor is capable of displaying.

OSC (Overscan)
This button is used to switch the Overscan function on
and off. The Overscan setting is stored separately for
each source device.
Note:
We recommend that you only use the Overscan
function with video sources whose picture is
unclear at the outer margins of your monitor.
ASP (Aspect ratio)
The term Aspect ratio refers to the width : height ratio of
the reproduced picture. The most commonly used aspect
ratios are 4 : 3, which is familiar from the early years of
television, and the 16 : 9 wide-screen format which was
introduced to the home cinema world with the DVD.
The VSP 1250 R is capable of accepting a very wide
range of picture formats from source devices, and
adjusting them to match the geometry of your video
monitor.
Repeated brief presses on the ASP button allows you to
scroll through the various matching factors offered by the
VSP 1250 R. Use this method to select the appropriate
matching factor, so that the machine displays the picture
delivered by the source as accurately as possible on your
monitor, i.e. filling the format, and with the minimum of
distortion.

setting can be found under the point 'Aspect ratio -
