IMPORTANT: Never apply mechanical pressure to the coal supply in the tender and thus to the servo
drive. This can lead to permanent damage to the servo!
Description
The function "Lowering coal supply with locomotive control" is a unique feature developed especially for the class BR
50 in G scale.
The coal supply is lowered by a servo drive depending on the speed of the locomotive. No coal is consumed when the
locomotive is stationary. When the lowest level is reached, the locomotive speed is reduced to a low speed level and
the locomotive can then only be controlled up to a maximum of this speed level. The coal is "refi lled" via the special
function key F7, the servo lifts the coal supply to the maximum again. If the function key F7 is subsequently switched
off, the process starts again. If F7 is not switched off again, the coal supply remains at the maximum level. The servo
settings of the end stops are set in the corresponding CVs exactly to the possible travel path of the coal supply and
should not be changed! The servo must be connected to servo output 4 of the locomotive decoder, since the function
"Lower coal supply" is only available at this servo output 4! (see wiring scheme
Settings
Of course there are settings for the whole process to customize this special feature to your own needs. The following
features can be set using the CVs described below:
- Duration of the lowering from the maximum to the minimum coal level in minutes at low speed.
- Locomotive speed after the lowest coal level has been reached.
- Change the corresponding special function key (factory setting F7).
Duration of lowering
The total time of coal reduction can be set to minutes using the CV220 of the locomotive decoder.
This time refl ects the actual coal consumption depending on the speed. If the locomotive is moved at a low speed, the
coal is used up after the set minutes have elapsed. If, on the other hand, the locomotive is permanently running at top
speed, the coal will be consumed six times faster. The value of this CV220 can be set within a range of 0 - 255 (factory
setting 30). The value 0 disables the coal lowering function.
Locomotive speed with consumed coal
Once the coal stock has reached its lowest level, the maximum usable speed of the locomotive is limited to a small
speed level. This speed stage is controlled via CV221 of the decoder in a value range from 0 - 255 adjustable (factory
setting 50). If the value 0 is programmed here, the locomotive stops when the carbon is used up and can only be started
again by switching on function F7 ( Coal set to maximum). The value 255 has the consequence that the coal supply is
lowered, but after reaching the lowest level the locomotive speed is not infl uenced.
Changing the special function key
The function key number is stored in CV217 of the locomotive decoder (factory setting 7). This CV217 can be used in
a value range from 0 (F0) to 28 (F28).
NOTE: The function "Lower coal supply" is not activated in analog operation of the locomotive decoder!
