Overview

The BDX-N1000 is a Network Interface Unit to
transmit MPEG2 transport streams via an ATM
network. The unit converts MPEG2 bit streams to
ATM signals and vice versa.
Operations of the BDX-N1000 can be set and
controlled from an external computer via Ethernet
(10BASE-T) or RS-232C.
For the software to set and control the unit, consult your
Sony sales representative.

Features

Bi-directional interface
Bi-directional conversion between MPEG2 bit-stream
and ATM signals is possible. Stable transmission via
an ATM network is realized between two systems at
remote locations by installing BDX-N1000 units in
both of the systems.
DVD ASI (asynchronous serial interface)
The DVD ASI (asynchronous serial interface) is
employed for bitstream input/output.
The input (one connector) conforms to both Data
Packet and Data Burst modes and can be connected to
a BDX-E1000 MPEG Encoder Unit or a BDX-M1000
MPEG Multiplexer Unit.
The output (two connectors) conforms to Data Packet
mode and can be connected to a BDX-D1000 MPEG
Decoder Unit.
Two traffic types
The unit can handle two traffic types for MPEG
transport data of a constat bit rate (MPEG over ATM)
and 8-channel IP packet data (IP over ATM).
Establishment of an optical fiber network
(with the BDKP-N1001/N1002)
The unit supports physical layers, such as for single
mode and multi mode, by the ATM I/O ports which
use optical fiber.
ATM adaptation layers
The unit supports ATM adaptation layers AAL1
(including FEC) and AAL5.
AAL1 error correction (FEC) functions
The unit can perform AAL1 error correction (FEC:
Forward Error Correction), which conforms to ITU-T
I.363.1.

1) Ethernet is a trademark of Xerox Corporation.
PCR dejitter function
The dejitter function suppresses PCR jitter caused by
the network and ATM cell processing in transmission
of MPEG transport streams.
1)
Alarm indications/outputs
A variety of indicators on the front panel and an alarm
output from a relay-contact connector on the rear panel
warn of errors in operation or input/output.

Optional Accessories

Network Adapter Boards
Four types of optional network adapter boards are
available for connection to the ATM network.
Select a board according to your requiring interface
and mount it into this unit.
BDKP-N1001
Adapter board for 155.52-Mbps multimode fiber
interface. This board supports STM-1 (SDH) and
STS-3C (SONET) modes.
BDKP-N1002
Adapter board for 155.52-Mbps single-mode fiber
interface. This board supports STM-1 (SDH) and
STS-3C (SONET) modes.
BDKP-N1003
Adapter board for DS3 (44.736 Mbps) interface using
75-ohm BNC input/output.
BDKP-N1004
Adapter board for E3 (34.368 Mbps) interface using
75-ohm BNC input/output.
