Safety information
No persons other than expert electricians only must open this device in due compliance with the wiring diagram
shown in the housing cover / on the housing / represented in the corresponding operating instructions.
Caution! The operation of the controller in the vicinity of other devices that do not comply with the EMC
directives may affect its functions. The company charged with the installation of the device must, after the
completion of the installation works, instruct the user of the control system into its functions and in how to
operate it correctly.
These operating instructions must be kept at a place that can be accessed freely by the operating and/or
servicing personnel in charge.
1. Application
This controller has been specially devised for the control of the heating and cooling operations performed by
4-pipe systems that exist in hotel rooms, living spaces and business premises and is particularly suited for the
control of normally open and normally closed continuous-action valve drives. Regarding other applications not
to be foreseen by the manufacturer of this device, the safety standards concerning these applications need to
be followed and adhered to. Regarding the aptitude of the device for any such other application, please refer to
section 10. herein (Warranty).
2. Functional description
The KTRVB measures, based on the data that are delivered to by an internal sensor, the temperature that
exists in the related room and, in the event a deviation of the actual value with regard to the set value is
detected, triggers the activation of the heating or cooling installation as needed. The point on the scale of all
swelling arrow-equipped controller models represents the well-being point, which in the condition as delivered,
corresponds to approx. 21°C. An internal potentiometer enables to change this point by ± 5 K (see chapter 9.).
The adjusting knob enables to increase or decrease the desired temperature as of the well-being point by max.
3K. Regarding other functions, please refer to section 4., Delivery range.
2.1 The function "OFF with subsequent frost protection monitoring"
Once the control system is deactivated via the switch or the external contact input provided for this purpose, the
controller nevertheless monitors the room temperature. If, in this mode, the controller detects that the actual
temperature level has fallen short of a value of approx. 5°C, the controller triggers the opening of the heating
valve. With the model KTRVB-042.206, the "Comfort" and "ECO" mode indications are not illuminated in this
case.
2.2 Neutral zone
The neutral zone describes as the control range within which the actual temperature is near to the set value, so
that neither any heating nor any cooling operations are triggered. A potentiometer enables to adjust the related
neutral zone value internally (see section 9.).
2.3 The "ECO mode" function
The ECO mode function has been designed to save energy. It serves to regulate the system down to a lower
temperature while operating in heating mode and to regulate it up to a higher temperature while operating in
cooling mode. If operating in ECO mode, the so-called ECO zone extends the neutral zone. The value that is
equivalent to the ECO zone is adjusted by means of the potentiometer provided for this purpose (see section
9.). The operation in ECO mode can either be activated by means of a switch (model KTRVB-042.206) or an
external contact input.
3. Installation
The device is determined for the installation on a wall surface or an UP box and must not be exposed directly to
any cold or heat sources. Care must be taken to ensure that it is not exposed to the influence of heat or cold
sources that warm or cool the device at its back (through air flows in cavity walls or the temperatures radiated
by ascending pipelines, f. ex.). In the event the thermal influencing of the controller at the place of installation
cannot be excluded completely, the device provides the option to adjust the related zero point (see section 9.)
internally as needed. This, however, does not apply to the controller model KTRVB-042-100. Also please note
that the internal zero point adjustment may take place only after the controller has adapted itself to the pre-
vailing room temperature (approx. 1 hour).
3.1 Setting of the proportional range
This setting enables to adapt the controller to the temperature change rate that occurs within a certain room.
With controlled systems that react quickly, the proportional band is usually "stretched" to a somewhat greater
extent. With controlled system that react slowly, it is just the other way round. The adaptation is, in dependence
on the different heating and cooling rates which occur inside the related room, performed seperately in regard
to both the heating and the cooling proportional band (see section 9.).
3.2 Reversal of the direction of operation of the controller outputs
The plug-in bridge J1 enables to reverse the direction of operation in regard to the heating output, while the
plug-in bridge J2 enables to do so in regard to the cooling output. The controller is, in the condtion as delivered
adjusted as follows: 0 V = "valve closed", 10 V = "valve open". The reversal of the direction of operation is
realised by plugging the plug-in bridges into the other sockets provided for this purpose (0 V = valve open,
10 V = valve closed).

3.3. Suppression of the setting range
The setting range of the controller can be restricted mechanically by means of the setting pins that exist under-
neath of the adjusting knob. To enable this, the knob must be removed by pulling it off first in order to make the
according adjustments and be put on again afterwards (red pin for maximum and blue pin for minimum tempe-
rature).
