1. Application, Scope of
Delivery, Accessories
Important! Read the user manual before
using the aggregate!
These instructions are intended for the machine
operator. Keep them in a safe place and close at
hand!
The tongs may only be used:
„ if in proper technical condition, in accordance
with its intended purpose and in awareness of
all safety hazards,
„ with all safety devices properly attached,
„ in accordance with all safety instructions,
„ after the operating staff has read and
understood this manual and, in particular,
Chapter 2 "Safety Instructions" (P. 8) and
Chapter 3 "Commissioning and Operational
Safety" (P. 9).
Faulty operation can only be avoided and and
dangerous situations can only be evaluated properly
if these instructions are observed at all times.
1.1 Symbols used in this manual
Danger:
Proceed with extreme caution. In the
event of incorrect operation, there is a
risk of injury to operating staff and
other persons. There is also a risk of
damage to the machine.

1.2 Use according to these
instructions
Field of Application
The power pack is intended to be used in
combination with EFA Z078, Z079, Z080, and Z090
tongs.
The machine is not equipped to be used for any
other purpose. Any desire for a different kind of

application on the operator's part requires prior
consultation with Schmid & Wezel GmbH & Co.
(S&W).
Be aware of risk of injury and increased wear when
using the aggregate in any other application. Failure
to comply with these instructions shall result in the
sole liabilty of the user.

2. Safety Instructions
2.1 General Safety Instructions
The compact hydraulic power pack was
manufactured in accordance with applicable
standards and operating safety regulations.
The fan cowling feeds the air flow generated by the
fan wheel directly between the splines, which
results in an intense heat dissipation into the
surroundings.
Therefore, the compact hydraulic power pack is
suitable for the VDE 0530 operating modes
(continuous use) within the rating range as well as
for S6 (cycle operation including idle intervals). In
this connexion, the working load may amount to 1.8
times of the rated output. S3 (intermittent duty) is
possible as well. Even with the engine halted, the
cooling effect of the spline surface is very good.
A separately powered (integrated) third-party fan
can be supplied for any temperature-critical
application (providing an increase in cooling of
approx. 25%).
When using the tongs, ensure to observe the
following safety measures.
„ Any knife replacements as well as any
installations, maintenance, and repairs must not
be performed unless all devices are powered off.
„ Operating the aggregate requires the operating
staff to have sufficient knowledge of how to
work with the tongs.
„ Orientation provided by our trained staff
„ Any installation, maintenance and repair work
may only be performed by authorised and
trained personnel.
„ All tongs supplied by S&W comply with the
relevant safety regulations.
„ Fix the pumps using the attenuation elements to
