Documentation validity
This documentation applies for the exchange of MSS series on
standard cylinders of the PRA, TRB and ITS series. Observe
Tables 1 to 3.
Presentation of information
Warnings
In this document, there are warning notes before the steps
whenever there is a danger of personal injury or damage to
equipment. The measures described to avoid these hazards must
be observed.

Measures to avoid these hazards
Meaning of the signal words
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in minor or moderate injuries.
Indicates damage to property: The product or its environment
may be damaged.
Symbols
Operation may be impaired if this information is
disregarded.
Notes on safety
Useful load falling at piston rod!
With a vertical installation position of the cylinder, a load
suspended on the piston rod can fall when the compressed air
supply is switched off.
O
Remove and secure suspended loads from the piston rod
before you switch off the compressed air supply.
Mechanical loads!
The cylinder or cylinder parts can be damaged if the MSS seal
adapters are exchanged improperly.
O
Make sure that the cylinder is not damaged by falling parts
or incorrect tool usage. Especially avoid damage to the
piston rod and seals.

Delivery contents
The delivery contents include:
W One MSS modular sealing system
(lifetime lubrication)
W One set of assembly instructions
Preparing for exchange
1. Extend the piston rod.
2. Secure the suspended load.
3. Remove the piston rod from the load.
4. Retract the piston rod.
5. Depressurize the cylinder.
6. Make sure the relevant section of the system is not under
voltage and protect it from being switched on.
7. Have a tool with a suitable wrench size ready – see Table 2.
For MSS with Ø 50 to 125 mm, you require a hook wrench
according to DIN 1810 A for assembly and disassembly.
Remove MSS series
Let the cylinder cool first. The piston rod warms up in operation.
There is a danger of burns.
1. Remove the nut from the piston rod.
2. Loosen the MSS seal adapter with an appropriately sized
wrench – see Table 2.
3. Unscrew the old MSS seal adapter completely and remove it
over the piston rod.
Insert MSS series
1. Guide the new MSS seal adapter over the piston rod up to the
connection thread.
2. Tighten the MSS seal adapter with the specified torque – see
Table 2.
3. Screw the nut onto the piston rod again.
Finishing the exchange
1. If necessary, assemble any removed mountings back onto the
piston rod.
2. Apply pressure to the cylinder and supply voltage to the
system component.
3. Extend the piston rod.
4. Fasten the load to the piston rod.
