USER INSTRUCTIONS - Carefully read all instructions before using the Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL).
See 'Glossary' in "General Instructions for Use and Maintenance" for identifi cation of numbered items
in a white box.
TRAINING: It is the responsibility of the users of this equipment to understand these instructions, and to be
trained in the correct installation, use, and maintenance of this equipment. These individuals must be aware of the
consequences of improper installation or use of this equipment. This user manual is not a substitute for a training
program. Training must be provided on a periodic basis to ensure profi ciency of the users.
USE: The Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL) may be used to provide continuous fall protection while ascending,
descending, or moving laterally. The SRL is intended for use with fall arrest equipment in compliance with EN 361.
• Avoid working where the lifeline will be in contact with or abrade against unprotected sharp edges. Provide
protection for the lifeline.
• Do not allow any lifelines to pass under arms or between legs during use.
• If a fall occurs, the employer must have a rescue plan and the ability to implement a rescue.
• Equipment which has been subjected to fall arrest forces must be removed from service for inspection (see
Inspection).
WARNING: Figure 1 illustrates acceptable anchorage methods for the SRL. The anchorage structure must be
capable of supporting a load of 10 kN (2,248 lbs.). Make only compatible connections to anchors conforming to
EN 795. Connect only to an overhead anchorage. Do not work above the anchorage. (Figure 2).
WARNING: Swing falls may occur when the anchorage point is not directly above the point where a fall occurs
(Figure 3). The force of striking an object in a swing fall may cause serious injury or death. Minimize swing falls
by working as close to the anchorage as possible. Do not permit a swing fall if injury could occur.
WARNING: Use of this equipment in areas with environmental hazards may require additional precautions
to reduce the possibility of injury to the user or damage to the equipment. Hazards may include, but are not
limited to: heat, chemicals, corrosive environments, high voltage power lines, abrasive surfaces, and sharp
edges. Contact Capital Safety if you have questions about using this equipment where environmental hazards
exist.
OPERATION: During operation, the hook (D) on the end of the SRL lifeline is attached to the back (dorsal) D-ring
(E) on a full body harness (Figure 4). The swivel eye (A) on the top end of the SRL is secured to the anchorage
connector (C) or anchorage (C) with a compatible carabiner (B)
connector (C) or anchorage (C) with a compatible carabiner (B) (Figure 1). The worker is free to move about
within recommended working areas at normal speeds. The lifeline should extend smoothly and retract without
hesitation. If slack line condition is created in normal use, the SRL should be returned to Capital Safety for service.
Should a fall occur, the SRL will lock and arrest the fall. Upon rescue, remove the SRL from use. Inspect as
described in Inspection. When working with the SRL, allow the lifeline to recoil back into the device under control.
A short tag line may be required to extend or retract the lifeline during connection and disconnection. Allowing the
lifeline to be fully extended for long periods of time may cause premature weakening of the retraction spring.
TRANSPORT AND STORAGE: Transport and store the SRL in a cool, dry, clean environment; out of direct
sunlight. Avoid transporting or storing the SRL in areas where chemical vapors exist. Thoroughly inspect the SRL
after extended storage or transport.

MAINTENANCE:

Exterior: Periodically clean the exterior of the SRL with water and a mild detergent. Position the SRL so water
can drain out. Clean labels as required.
Lifeline: Clean the lifeline with water and a mild detergent. Rinse and thoroughly air dry or towel dry. Do
not force dry with heat. An excessive buildup of dirt or other contaminants may prevent the lifeline from fully
retracting, causing a potential free fall hazard. Return the SRL to an authorized service center for lifeline
replacement if necessary.
System Components: Clean and store associated system components according to manufacturer's
instructions.
WARNING: Do not disassemble the SRL. Do not lubricate any part of the SRL. Additional maintenance and
servicing must be performed by an authorized service center.
