9.Engine Start

Start:
• Turn the key into the «å» position (Open).
For a short time all warning indicators except the cooling liquid overheating indicator should flash to confirm
their serviceability. The upper warning indicator continues to glow.
• If the electric power generator unit is equipped with an additional preheating device, then the corresponding
indicator on the front panel of the control console should light up for several seconds. The indicator will automa-
tically extinguish when the required temperature is reached.
It is allowed to start the engine only after the indicator extinguishes.
• Press the starter button and keep it pressed for the time necessary for operation of the preheating system.
• Press the starter button once more and leave it after the engine starts to run.
• Turning on and off of the upper warning indicator means that the engine is in the working mode.
• In case of any failure or disruptions during the start it is necessary to shut down the engine immediately. If neces-
sary, consult the specialist.
ATTENTION: Never start the starter during operation of the electric power generating unit: risk of damage of
gear teeth!

10. Operation

After the engine picks up normal speed, consumers may be connected to the electric power generator unit. To ensure maximum service life of the engine it is recom-
mended to warm up the engine for several minutes prior to connecting sufficiently powerful consumers.
If during operation the red overheating lamp is lit, in order to avoid damage of the engine it is necessary to shut down the electric power generator unit.
The causes of overheating may be dirt inside the fins of the cooler of the cooling system, insufficient flow of cooling air, excessive ambient temperature (over +40 °C), or overload of the generator.
If the V-belt is broken during operation of the engine there will also light up the storage battery discharge indicator (red lamp).
The storage battery discharge warning indicator lights up in case of failure of the charging voltage controller and absence of charging of the storage battery.
The oil pressure warning indicator lights up when the oil level is low and warns that the engine may be damaged due to insufficient oil pressure in the lubricating system.
Note: If the engine is stopped and fails to start, check the oil level prior to searching for other faults in other systems.
If the warning indicator of overfilling of the water trap lights up, it is also necessary to stop the engine. After that it is necessary to drain water from the water trap as described in Section 13.5.
If the engine overspeed warning indicator lights up, it is necessary to consult with the maintenance service.

11. Shut down of Electric Power Generator Unit

1. Switch off the electric power consumers and disconnect them from the electric power generator unit.
2. Let the engine operate without load for about 5 minutes.
3. Turn the lock key into the «•» position.
