Step 3: Preparing for installation
1.
The disk enclosure requires a minimum level
of clearance to the front and the side to allow
hard drive replacement.
A minimum of 1000 mm to the front of the disk
enclosure is required to extend the hard disk
drive drawer fully. A minimum of 300 mm to
the right of the extended drawer is required to
allow removal of the drives from the drawer.
Any obstruction within 300 mm to the right of
the drawer and within 1000 mm of the front of
the enclosure will prevent access to the drive
bays at the rear of the drawer.
2.
Use rack stabilizers with racks that contain
HPE StoreOnce 5500 Systems.
IMPORTANT:
documentation for detailed instructions,
including safety information, about
installing units within the rack. Make sure
you have sufficient personnel or lifting
equipment to install the disk enclosure
safely.
3.
There is a label on top of the server that shows
the default network name and MAC address
of the 1GbE network port 1 of the unit and login
information for the iLO4 management port.
Before you install the server in the rack, make
a note of this information.

4.
Leave the base storage disks in the enclosure,
but do not add any further expansion disks (if
purchased).
CAUTION:
delivered with further expansion disks
loaded and configured, assess the total
weight. If it is necessary to remove the
disks prior to installing, use the supplied
labels to record the drawer and slot
location of each disk so that you can
restore the enclosure to its original
configuration.
Step 4: Install the server and disk
enclosure in the rack
CAUTION:
installing and pulling units from the rack; they
can slip and fall, causing damage to the HPE
StoreOnce System or injury. Hewlett Packard
Enterprise is not responsible for any damage
or injury caused by the mishandling of the
HPE StoreOnce System.
1.
Install the rails, as illustrated on the installation
instructions that ship with the rail kit.
NOTE:
storage expansion requirements, the
recommendation is to install the first disk
enclosure above the head server unit.
(Ideally, there will be space for two disk
enclosures above the head server and
two disk enclosures below it.)
2.
Insert the eight locking nuts for the disk
enclosure into the rack; two on each column.
To locate the correct position for the locking
nuts, count up 4U from the bottom of the rails
(1). The nuts are placed on either side of the
+4U position on each rack column (2).
