want to go will help you compliment this movement. Be careful not to exaggerate the
motion and twist your upper body, or you may lose your balance.
Speed Control
Speed control is essential to skating, and turning is a good method to slow down. For
more experienced skaters, the slalom turn method is especially practical for controlling
speed when going down hills. The slalom turn helps control speed by doing sharp, semi-
circle turns. When going downhill, you will actually turn up the hill during part of the
turn. Keep both skates together and turn with your hips, as you edge off both skates. Your
fall line should look like Diagram C.
Caution! If you are not an experienced skater, do not attempt to go down hills until you
have mastered stopping and skating on flat pavement in a traffic-free area.
K2 SKATE TECHNICAL INFORMATION
K2 Softboot inline skates are comfortable, breathable soft boots with an anatomically
designed supportive hinged cuff. The patented Exotech exoskeleton cuff provides rigidity
and torsional stiffness, while the breathable boot offers fore and aft flexibility. The K2
Softboot design provides the best combination of comfort and performance for men,
women, and children no matter what their ability level.
Frame Systems: If you purchased a K2 Training Skate, your skate uses a two-bolt mount-
ing system to attach the frame to the boot, allowing for fore-aft and side-to-side adjust-
ment of the frame to accommodate your individual skating style. The two-bolt mounting
system is also compatible with most high-end inline frames.
Wheels: K2 Skates use skate wheels of different sizes and durometers, depending on the
model. For replacement wheels, the maximum compatible wheel size (outside diameter)
is printed on the frame of each skate. See Maintenance section below for information on
rotating wheels, and visit www.K2Skates.com/support for detailed instructions.
FITTING YOUR K2 SKATES
K2 Softboot inline skates have been designed with the aid of computerized data to ensure
a comfortable fit for most sizes of feet. If necessary, however, you can improve the fit of
your boots by following these steps:
1. Try your skates on indoors to check for correct fit before skating for the first
time. Once your skates have been skated in, they cannot be returned.
2. Lace your skates tightly. To close the buckle, place the strap in the receptacle
and close the buckle. To tighten the closure, reopen the buckle and extend the
strap further into the receptacle.
3. Some skaters with narrow feet may eliminate excess boot volume by using a
fitted insole. Your K2 Softboot dealer should be able to recommend an appropri-
ate insole.
MAINTAINING YOUR K2 SKATES
General Maintenance
Checking your equipment regularly and performing regular maintenance enhances the
safety of your inline skates. The skater should not make any modifications to the inline
skates that can impair the safety of the skates. Periodically inspect your equipment and
remove any sharp edges that may be been created through use.
Wheel Rotation
Your wheels are the most important replaceable component on your skates. Rotate your
wheels to ensure even wear and maximize wheel life. The rate of wear is affected by
numerous factors, but you should rotate your wheels at the onset of urethane wear. De-
pending on the model, K2 offers two types of wheel configuration on its skates: straight
(all wheels same size) and hi-lo (two larger rear wheels).
For straight wheel frames, use your K-Tool or a 4mm hex wrench to remove the first
wheel of the right skate. Remove the third wheel from the left skate and place it in the
first wheel position on the right skate, with the worn side out. Place the first wheel from
the right skate in the third position on the left skate. Repeat this process for the first wheel
on the left skate, the remove the second wheel from the right skate and duplicate this
process with the second and fourth wheels on both skates. (Diagrams E and F).
For rotating Hi-Lo setups, swap the first wheel with the second wheel of the opposite
skate, do the same with the larger rear wheels. Use the same criss-crossing pattern rein-
stalling the wheels with the worn side facing to the outside of your feet.
