Insert mains plug

into the 220 V mains outlet.
Swi t~ on the transmitter by pressing the swi tCh<1). The yellow
LED

now indicates "ready-mode".
Ensure that the red control diode lights up in each radiator con-
nected.
Attention:
The transmitter SI 1011 is effectively protected against shorts
at its outputs. In case of overload or short-circuit at the outputs
1 or 2 the 34 V s~ly is switched off. If this condition exists,
the LED-chain
CD~
and
~
is inoperative even if the unit is
switched on. Only 1f the cause for the short-circuit or overload
is removed this LED-chain will resume normal function.
Connect a high level signal source to the input(Z) (e. g. mixers,
preamplifiers, tape recorders). Set input serector
~
to position A.

If a microphone is to be used with the transmitter it must be con-
nected to the socket <2). The input selector is to be brought into
the position B.
Simultaneous operation of both inputs is not provided.
Level control, modulation setting
The transmitter is optimally modulated by means of the deviation
control
~.
Optimum modulation is reached if all green LEDs
~
light up during the loudest passages of the audio signal. If the
signal input is further increased the red diodes
~
indicate that
now a high quality limiter-amplifier is in operation which prevents
a further increa~of the deviation. If peak deviation is reached
both red diodes
~
light up. This high quality limiting amplifier
will tolerate approximately 40 dB overload without noticeable in-
crease of distortion. It is normally not recommended to operate the
transmitter in this condition since the dynamic range is decreased.
Limiting of dynamic range

A limited dynamic range is often of advantage when the transmitter
is used in installations for hearing handicapped persons. Since
the limiting amplifier of the SI 1011 works with very low distortion
even under extreme overload conditions (THD ~ 1%) dyna~ compression
is possible by simple overmodulation (both red diodes
~
light up!).

It is one of the main advantages of the "Infraport"-system with active
power radiators to allow almost unlimited lengths of cables as far as
the recommended cable materials are used.
