Operating
conditions
for transmissions
via infrared
light
The invisible
infrared
light is radiated by the transmitter
but
also by other artificial
sources
(light bulbs, neon lights, heaters)
and also by natural
sources
(sun). Undisturbed
audio transmission
first of all depends upon the power of the transmitter
used, the
distance of the transmitter
to the receiver,
the room size
-
and
upon the ratio of the radiated power of the infrared
light from the
transmitter
to the power of the interfering
light in the room.
The professional
monophonic
"Infraport"-transmitter
SI 1011 from
Sennheiser
electronic
has been developed
in view of the increased
demands with respect
to transmitted
light power, room size and inter-
fering light conditions.
The principle
of the active power radiators
is very flexible
and can thus be adapted to all kinds of operating
conditions.
In dependence
from these operating
conditions
in the
transmission
room the transmitter,
usually mounted
in the control
room or in an audio rack, can feed without further measures up to
eight power radiators
SZI 1011. The built-in power supply of the
SI 1011 can also feed
0 n e
high power radiator
SZI 1019. If addi-
tional power supplies are used the number of active radiators may
be further increased
to an almost unlimited
number. Since a coaxial-
cable is used for the RF-feed the connection
cables may have a length
up to 150 meters.
J
Since the quality of the infrared transmission
depends also upon
optimum modulation
of the transmitter,
the SI 1011 is fitted with
suitable
optical aids (LED-chain)
to monitor
the deviation.
Installation
The transmitter
C2) is mounted
in a suitable location
(control room,
audio rack).
A suitable number of active infrared radiators
(SZI 1011 or SZI 1019)
is mounted
on tripods or brackets with 3/8" threads. Direct the ra-
diators so that the infrared
light covers evenly the transmission
room. Avoid shadows through obstacles
or persons!Recommended
mounting
height
is
3 meters.
Connect
one or two special connection
cables GZL 1012 to the rear
panel of the SI 1011 to the sockets output 1
QJ
or output 2
~
respectively.
This special cable GZL 1012 contains connectors
to
which the infrared power radiators
SZI 1011 may be directly connected.
To connect the high power radiators
SZI 1019 to the cable GZL 1012
either the cable GZL 1019 (length 1 m) or the cable GZL 1019-1
(length 5 m) may be used.
J
If more than eight power radiators
SZI 1011 or more than one high
power radiator
SZI lÜ19 are connected
to the master transmitter
SI 1011 an external
dc-power
supply is necessary
to feed
34 V dc
into the cable GZL 1012. The necessary
current depends on the number
of the radiators
in use. Further aids for planning
and installations
are available upon request
from Sennheiser
electronic
and from the
Sennheiser
representation
in your country.
For fixed installations
Sennheiser
offers the special cable material
also in the length required.
This special cable contains
a 60 Q co-
axial cable and two powering
leads in a common plastic
sleeve. It
may be ordered under no. 12-1036 from the Sennheiser
service.
A prewired
connector-socket
with built-in
attenuator-network
is also
available
for fixed installations
and may be ordered under type no.
GZB 1019.
