2.3.2 Replacing the grinding belt

When the grinding belt has worn down it must be replaced, which is done in the
following way: Remove the outer shield (A) (see fig. 2.3.2) of the casing and pull the
handle (B) down. This releases the grinding belt (C), so it can be removed and
replaced by a new one, which should be fitted in reverse order. Check that the
direction of the arrows on the rear of the belt corresponds to the direction of rotation.
Once the new grinding belt has been fitted, it is necessary to ensure a straight
running action by adjusting the handle (D), which should be loosened until the
grinding belt runs straight on the contact wheel. Then tighten the handle (B).
This adjustment of the grinding belt must only be carried out by pulling the
grinding belt manually, and never with the machine switched on.

There are many different types of grinding belt, so it is important to select the correct
belt type. The material the item is made of must be taken into consideration, as the
grain size, grinding belt material and glue, etc. may vary.
In this connection it should be noted that there are several different types of contact
wheels, of varying softness and design for different purposes.

2.3.3 Operating the belt arm

Belt arm grinding may take place at the contact wheel or on the surface grinding
table. It is also possible to remove the surface grinding table and grind freely on the
grinding belt. Run the item steadily in towards the grinding belt and avoid hard, jerky
pressure or blows; always use a firm but light pressure to avoid damaging the
grinding belt or overloading the motor.
