Securely support the wood. Secure short logs
by clamping them. Only cut wood or wooden
objects. When cutting wood, make sure not to
come in contact with stones, nails etc. They may
be thrown away and damage the saw chain.
Avoid any contact between the running saw
and wire fences or the ground. If possible, the
machine should be supported for debranching.
Do not use the saw bar tip for this purpose. Be
aware of obstacles such as stubs, roots, ditches
and slopes. Risk of stumbling!
Wood under tension
B18: upper side of tree trunk under tension.
Risk: tree is thrown upwards!
B19: lower side of tree trunk under tension.
Risk: tree is thrown downwards!
B20: heavy tree trunks and high tension.
Risk: tree kicks back immediately with high force!
B21: tree trunk under lateral tension
Risk: tree is thrown to the sides.
-When debranching trees, the saw must be
held at an angle of max. 60° with respect to the
horizontal line. This is to avoid being hit by falling
branches.
- Cut the lower branches of the tree first. In this
way, cut branches can fall more easily.
- After having completed the cutting process, the
weight of the saw increases immediately for the
operator as the saw is no longer supported by
the branch. There is a risk of losing control of the
saw.
- Pull out the saw from the cut with the saw chain
running. This is to avoid jamming.
- Do not cut with the tip of the saw bar.
- Do not cut the thick part of the branches where
they come out of the tree trunk. This will affect
the wound healing of the tree.
- Cutting minor branches (B22):
- Apply the abutting side of the saw to the
branch. This avoids jerky movements of the saw
when starting to cut. Move the saw from the top
downwards through the branch applying some
pressure.
- Cutting major and longer branches (B23):
- Make a relief cut when cutting major branches.
- First, cut 1/3 of the branch diameter with the
upper side of the saw bar from the bottom to
the top (a). Then cut with the lower side of the
saw bar towards the first cut from the top to the
bottom (b). Cut longer branches in sections in
order to become aware of the spot where they
hit the ground.
Tree felling
If two or more persons at a time cut or fell trees,
they must work at a minimum distance of double
the height of the tree which is to be felled.
When felling trees, make sure not to endanger
other persons, not to hit supply lines and not
to cause any material damage. If a tree hits a
supply line, the public utilities must be informed
immediately.
When felling trees situated on a slope, the
operator of the chainsaw must stay above the
tree to be felled, as it is probable that the tree will
roll or slip down the slope after being felled.
Before felling trees, you should plan an escape
route and clear the way, if necessary. The escape
route should lead away from the expected falling
direction of the tree in a diagonally backwards
direction (see B30).
Before felling trees, the natural inclination of the
tree, the position of major branches and the wind
direction must be taken into account in order to
