measures will prevent the tool from starting
unintentionally.
d) Keep power tools which are not in use
away from children. Only persons who are
familiar with the power tool and who have
read the operating instructions may use the
machine. Power tools are dangerous if used by
inexperienced persons.
e) Maintain power tools with care. Check
moving parts for proper function and smooth
running, and check whether there are parts
which are broken or damaged to the extent
that the functionality of the power tool is
impaired. Have damaged parts repaired
before using the machine. Many accidents are
caused by poorly-maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Carefully-
maintained cutting tools with sharp edges are
less likely to jam and can be guided more easily.
g) Use power tools, accessory parts,
insertion tools, etc. in compliance with these
instructions. Take into account the working
conditions and the activity which is to be
carried out. Using power tools for applications
other than those intended may cause dangerous
situations.
4.5 Service
a) Have your power tool repaired by qualified
specialists only and always use original spare
parts for repair. This is to maintain the safety of
the power tool.
4.6 Safety notes for chainsaws
- When working with the chainsaw, keep all
body parts away from the saw chain. Before
starting the chainsaw, you must make sure
that the saw chain is not in contact with any
objects. When working with the chainsaw, a
single moment of inattentiveness may result in
clothes or body parts becoming trapped in the
38
saw chain.
- Always hold the chainsaw with your right
hand at the rear handle and your left hand
at the front handle. Holding the chainsaw in
reverse order increases the risk of injury and is
prohibited.
- Wear goggles and hearing protection.
Further protective equipment for your head,
hands, legs and feet is recommended. Suitable
protective clothing reduces the risk of injury
caused by flying chips and unintended contact
with the saw chain.
- Do not work with the chainsaw on trees. Work
on trees carries the risk of severe injury.
- Stand securely and keep your balance at
all times. Operate the chainsaw only when
standing on solid, secure and even ground. On
slippery surfaces or unstable platforms such as
ladders, you may lose your balance or the control
on the chainsaw.
- When cutting branches under tension, be
prepared that they may spring back. If the
tension in the timber fibres is released, the
branch under tension may hit the operator;
additionally, the operator may lose control over
the chainsaw.
- Pay particular attention when cutting copse
and young trees. This thin material is likely to be
trapped in the saw chain and strike you or make
you lose your balance.
- Switch off the chainsaw and hold it at the
front handle for carrying. Keep the chain away
from your body. Always apply the protective
cover for transport and storage. Handle the
chainsaw with care to reduce the risk of coming
in contact with the running saw chain.
- Follow the instructions for lubrication,
chain tensioning and the replacement of
