Madicon – Quickstart
Start up
This Quickstart describes the initial operation of the Madicon in conjunction
with the SPL Madison .

The SPL Madison is the best choice for a MADI audio interface. It offers 16
analog input and 16 analog output channels of the highest sound quality.
Combined with the Madicon this system features SmartMADI
daisy chaining up to 4 Madison and communicating sample rate changes
through the MADI stream.

2 Download and install the required software from madicon.spl.audio on your
computer:
On Windows:
• the latest Driver.
• the latest Madicon Mixer Software.
On macOS:
• the latest Madicon Mixer Software.
Connect the Madicon to a bus powered USB 3 port of your computer with the

enclosed USB cable.
The Madicon is a bus powered USB device and has a power consumtion of less than 2.5 Watt.
For highly reliable operation connect the Madicon direct to your computer – do not use an USB hub.
If the USB connection is established, the High Speed USB LED lights up.

Select the Madicon clock source.
For a quick setup with up to 4 SPL Madison, set the Madicon to internal clock (Int) and the Madisons to slaves (MADI).
If the Madicon is set to external clock (Ext), one Madison must be the master (Int) and all other connected Madison
must be slaves (MADI). The Lock LED lights up as soon as the Madicon is synchronized to the external clock.
If you want to use the optical output of the Madicon, e.g. for monitoring, connect

a DA-converter with an optical input.
The optical connector of the Madicon always outputs the main stereo channel of the connected computer – e.g.
1 and 2 of your DAW.

Connect up to 4 SPL Madison MADI audio interfaces to the Madicon.
* Obviously you can connect any MADI audio interface to the SPL Madicon. For the correct connection and
configuration, please consult the documentation which comes with your MADI audio interface.
Not all features like SmartMADI may be supported.
