1. Description

The 14G1 wire-wrap tool (Wrappy) works with protective low voltage (safety category 3) and
is operated via a safety transformer at a mains voltage of 230V. With the aid of various
wrapping inserts, solid wires in the wire diameter range 0.16mm - 0.5mm (AWG34 - AWG24)
can be processed. The solid round copper wire, which sits in the wire groove, is wound
around the angular wrapping post by the wrapping insert in several loops using high
mechanical pressure, giving rise to a gas-tight, electrical connection. During winding, the
guide bush provides the wrapping insert with the necessary guidance. The wrapping insert
and the guide bush can be replaced simply and without external aids by means of an adjusting
nut on the head piece of the tool. Following the wire-wrapping process, the wrapping insert
stops again at its starting-point by means of (180°) adjustable indexing. When handling wire
diameters of 0.25mm (AWG30), work can be carried out with a KAA (combined cut-off and
insulation-stripping) wiring insert. Using a KAA wiring insert and guide bush with a cutting
edge, the end of the wire is cut off, stripped and wrapped to the exact length in one operating
cycle.

2. Commissioning

Fit the wiring insert (wrapping insert + guide bush) into the wire-wrap tool. To do this, loosen
the adjusting nut on the head piece, press the wrapping insert lightly against the carrier in
the tool and turn until it locks into place.
Slide the guide bush with the groove over the positioning pin in the tool and when the tool is
running, tighten the adjusting nut by hand. Check whether the mains voltage is consistent
with the information on the type plate of the safety transformer. If the mains voltage is
correct, plug the safety transformer into the socket.

Insert the end of the wire into the wire guide channel (eccentric bore). Slide the wire-wrap
GB
tool with the central bore over the wrapping connection pin. Operate the finger switch. The
jumper wire will be wound by the wrapping insert in several loops around the connection pin,
but do not press too hard when doing this. Next take the wire-wrap tool out of the connection
pin.

Maintenance

Warning: Before maintenance work, the wire-wrap tool must be disconnected from
the mains supply by pulling out the mains plug.
Unscrew the 2 screws used for fastening the collet chuck (90503893).
Next unscrew the remaining 5 housing screws and lift off the half-section of the housing.
Take out the pusher (90913017) from above.
Carefully lift off the motor (90913070) complete with gear housing (90913065), the index
coupling (90913018) and the collet chuck (90503893) at the same time and then separate
them from one another. Remove the gear housing completely from the motor.
Caution: During assembly, first mesh in the pinion with the planet wheels and then
rotate the gear housing so that both motor pins can be pushed into the drill-holes.
Lubrication
Before assembly, lightly grease the planet wheels with multi-purpose grease (approx. 0.5g
Esso-Beacon 2).

3. Operating guidelines

Standard wrapping insert
A standard wrapping insert only wraps the stripped conductor around the wrapping post.
Modified wrapping insert
A modified wrapping insert first wraps approximately one loop of the insulated wire around
the wrapping post and after that the stripped conductor. In this way the vibration resistance
of the connection is considerably enhanced.
