OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
230V/AC FAST CHARGER 2A
ITEM NO. 23 57 03
PRESCRIBED USE
The device is designed for charging NiCd/NiMH rechargeable battery packs with 5 to 8
cells. This corresponds to a charging voltage of 7 to 11.2V. The number of cells is set
automatically by the charger.
The charging current can be adapted to the respective rechargeable battery in two stages
(1000 mA / 2000 mA).
There is a discharging function for NiCd batteries in order to prevent the memory effect.
After having discharged the battery, the fast charger automatically switches to charging
mode. The intelligent Minus-Delta-V-charging switch-off recognizes a full battery and
automatically switches to "trickle charge" mode. The battery is not overcharged and thus
keeps its charge state.
An indicator lamp indicates the current operating state at any time.
A protective cutoff automatically interrupts the charging process after 6 hours. A longer
charging time usually indicates a defective battery.
Depending on the battery system used, the connections on the charger can be exchanged.
Batteries (zinc-carbon, alkaline, etc.), lead acid batters or lithium batteries (Li-Ion, LiPo,
etc.) must not be charged!
The charger must only be connected to and operated with 230 V alternating voltage.
The charger is protected against overload and short-circuit. The polarity at the charger
output must be observed!
Any use other than the one described above is inadmissible and damages this product.
Moreover, this involves dangers such as e.g. short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc.
No part of the product must be modified or rebuilt!
Always observe the safety instructions!
MEANING OF THE SYMBOLS
An exclamation mark in a triangle indicates important instructions in this
operating manual which absolutely have to be observed.
The "hand" icon gives you tips and notes on the operation.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure proper operation, please read these operating instructions
completely before you use the product.
In case of any damages which are caused due to failure to observe
these operating instructions, the guarantee will expire! We do not as-
sume any liability for resulting damages!
We do not assume liability for damage to property or personal injury
caused by improper use or the failure to observe the safety instruc-
tions! The guarantee will expire in any such case!
The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of electrical equipment is inadmissible
because of safety and approval reasons (CE).
Chargers and connected rechargeable batteries must not be used unattended.
We kindly request the user to observe the safety instructions and warnings contained in
this operating manual to ensure safe operation!
The structure complies with safety class II (double or reinforced insulation). Make sure the
insulation of the housing or the power line is neither damaged nor destroyed.
Keep chargers and accessories out of reach of children! They are no toys.
In industrial facilities, the safety regulations laid down by the professional trade association
for electrical equipment and facilities must be adhered to.
Chargers and accessories used at schools, training facilities, do-it-yourself and hobby
workshops should not be handled unless supervised by trained, responsible personnel.
Avoid operation under adverse environmental conditions. These result in damage to the
sensitive electronics inside the charger and thus to a potential threat to the life of the user.
Adverse environmental conditions are:
- too high air humidity (> 75 % rel., condensing)
- wetness
- dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvents, benzines
- too high ambient temperatures (> approx. +40°C)
- strong vibrations
When charging batteries, always observe the charging specifications of the
corresponding manufacturer of the batteries.
VERSION 10/08
Improper handling (too high charging currents or incorrect polarity) can result in overcharg-
ing of the battery or its destruction. In the worst case, the battery can explode, thus caus-
ing serious damages.
Keep transmitters (mobile phones, transmitters for model construction, etc.) away from the
charger since the occurring transmitter radiation might lead to malfunctions of the charging
operation or the destruction of the charger and thus also the rechargeable batteries.
Never connect the charger to the mains voltage immediately after it has been brought from
a cold room into a warm one. Condensation water that forms might destroy your device.
Leave the device disconnected and wait until it has reached room temperature.
If there is any reason to believe that safe operation has become impossible, put the device
out of operation and secure it against any unintended operation.
Safe operation must be presumed to be no longer possible, if:
- the device exhibits visible damage,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- the device was exposed to extraordinary stress caused by transport.
SETTING THE CHARGING CURRENT, CONNECTION
When connecting the rechargeable battery, you must observe the polarity and charging
specifications of the corresponding battery manufacturer.
Use the key contained in the delivery for setting the charging current.
The charging voltage suitable for your rechargeable battery is set automatically by the
charger.
Select the charging current suitable for your rechargeable battery
with the rotary switch, see figure on the right.
The charging current should not exceed a value of 0.4 of the battery capacity.
Example:
2400 mAh * 0.4 = 960 mAh
5000 mAh * 0.4 = 2000 mAh
Select the appropriate charging current.
With rechargeable batteries that can be fast-charged, the charging current
must not exceed the battery capacity (e.g. rechargeable battery 1000 mAh
charging current 1000 mA). In case of doubt, always select the lower charg-
ing current range.
Connect the connector system appropriate for your rechargeable battery pack to the
charger.
The white racing pack connector and the crocodile clip have a reverse battery protection
and only fit to the charging cable with the correct polarity.
The red crocodile clip marks the positive pole, the black one the negative pole.
