Avoid the following unfavourable environmental conditions at the installation loca-
tion and during transportation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loudspeakers
When setting up the product, ensure that the cables are neither bent nor squeezed.
Tips & Notes
• Dependent on the Internet provider you use for DSL, further configuration may have be car-
ried out in the DSL router.
Please note:
In general, when using a router we strongly advise the use of a flat rate or at least
a volume tariff (e.g. 5 GByte/month). The automatic disconnection after a given idle
time (e.g. after 10 minutes, e.g. in the router called „Idle time-out") may not always
function correctly.
Which means that, regardless of the router setting, the Internet connection is not
disconnected and costs continue to be incurred, even when no Internet browser is
running or all the connected computers are switched off. This can lead to very high
costs (several hundred Euros monthly!).
Even when the router does not show this behaviour, a firmware update, or the
installation of certain software on the computer, could cause this to change.
Causes could be, for example, queries from exchange programmes, update
requests from Windows, anti-virus programmes etc. or time server queries from the
router or from Windows.
In case of doubt, disconnect the router from the mains or the DSL modem when it
is not in use, if you do not have a flat rate or a volume tariff!
• After connecting the router (or after a reset), it takes at least 30-40 seconds until the router can
be used by a computer (e. g. to access the configuration menu).
• When you are using WLAN, it is necessary to activate the encryption. We recommend you use
WPA2 since WEP, for example, does not offer enough security.
Additional security against unauthorised access to the WLAN (or to devices that are connect-
ed via a network cable) can be obtained by only allowing access for the MAC addresses on
the network cards or WLAN adapters that you are using.
The MAC address for a network card or a network adaptor (e.g. USB) can be displayed in
Windows XP/Vista by using the prompt and entering the command „ipconfig/all" (e.g. charac-
ter string „B4-34-54-23-A3-C2").
Disposal
Electrical and electronic products do not belong in the household waste!
Please dispose of the device when it is no longer of use, according to the current
statutory requirements.

Example for T-Online
In order to configure an internet connection with the German provider „T-Online" proceed
as follows:
• Click on „Setup Wizard" in the router's main menu and „Next" in the following window.
• „1. Operating Mode"„: Select „Gateway" and click on „Next".
• „2. Time Zone Setting": Select „GMT+01" (usually preset) and click on „Next".
• „3. LAN Interface Setup": Usually, no alteration is necessary. Only change the router's IP
address (192.168.1.1) and the Subnet Mask „255.255.255.0", if you want to make spe-
cial adjustments to your network. Click on „Next".
• „4. WAN Interface Setup": Select the setting „PPPoE" under „WAN Access Type".
Enter the access data for T-Online.
1st input line „User Name"
Here a long combination of the following data is to be entered:
Line identity + T-Online no. + „#" + secondary user no. + „@t-online.de"
Example: Data for your T-Online order confirmation:
11111111111
„Connection recognition"
222222222222
„Associated T-Online number"
0001
„Secondary user number/suffix"
@t-online.de
MUST be added!
Example: 111111111111222222222222#0001@t-online.de
Do not enter space characters between the individual segments; you must to enter
„t-online.de" using lower case letters, no upper case letters!
The hash sign might not be necessary.
2nd input line „Password"
Enter your password as provided by T-Online in their order confirmation („personal key word").
Finally, click on „Next".
The entered data will be saved. No further settings are necessary for basic internet
access via T-Online. Of course, the router offers more as well as different features,
which you can find the manufacturer's English operating manual.
• „5. Wireless": By default, WLAN is activated and preconfigured. In any event, check the chan-
nel (= „Channel Number") matches the one for your terminal, e.g. your notebook. If necessary
change the channel. For instance, channel 11 is by far the most widely used channel in
Germany. If you do not want to use WLAN you can turn off this function, after the configura-
tion has been completed, in the menu „Wireless", under „Basic Settings".
• „6. Security": As described already in the section „Tips & Notes", we only recommend
„WPA2(AES)" encryption for WLAN because, for example, „WEP" does not offer sufficient
security.
• Clicking on „Finished" completes the basic configuration.
The router now restarts, this takes about 30-40 seconds. After this, you can start a web brows-
er on your computer to access the internet.
Configuring the Device as Access Point
To configure the router as an access point, proceed as follows:
Disconnect from the mains and set the switch on the back of the router to „AP". Connect the
WAN port of the access point to a LAN port on your first router and reconnect to the mains
voltage.
If the DHCP server is activated in your old router, the access point default configuration is suffi-
cient to provide access to the Internet without making any further settings.
To adjust the configuration in the web server, you have to assign a static IP address to your LAN
connection. It should have this form, 192.168.1.x. Where „x" is a number between 2 and 254. As
subnet mask you have to use 255.255.255.0. After doing this, you can open the web server from
your Internet browser. To do so, enter the correct IP address for the router (192.168.1.1) into the
address line.
Configuration in the web server is almost identical to the configuration in the „T-Online" exam-
ple. The „Operation Mode" in thhe AP mode is set automatically to „Bridge". Select the setting
„DHCP Client" from „WAN Access Type"; access data can no longer be entered. Adjust the set-
tings for „Wireless" and „Security" and click on „Finish" to complete the configuration. Now, you
have to turn off the DHCP server. To do this, click on „TCP/IP Settings" and then on „LAN
Interface". Change the „DHCP" setting to „Client" and confirm this with the button „Apply
Changes".
Now, delete the static IP address from the LAN settings of your computer and, if necessary,
restart your router, access point and PC.
