tions or heavy mechanical loads.

• Also observe any further safety instructions in the individual chapters of
these operating instructions.
Notes on primary and secondary batteries
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must be kept out of the reach of chil-
dren.
• Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; there is a risk
that they could be swallowed by children or pets. If they are swallowed,
consult a doctor immediately.
• Leaking or damaged normal/rechargeable batteries in contact with the
skin can cause acid burns; therefore, use suitable safety gloves.
• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or
thrown into fire. There is a risk of explosion!
• Do not recharge conventional non-rechargeable batteries; risk of explo-
sion! Only recharge rechargeable batteries that are intended for this pur-
pose; use a suitable battery charger.
• Check that the polarity is correct when inserting the battery/rechargeable
battery (pay attention to plus/+ and minus/-).
Inserting/Replacing batteries/Rechargeable batteries
• Turn the cover with the suction cups at the rear of the housing in counter-clockwise
direction until it can be pulled off.
• Open the battery compartment below and insert a new battery of type 1.5V alkaline
Mignon (AA) paying attention to the polarity.
• The correct polarity is indicated in the battery compartment.
• Close the battery compartment.
• If used, place the cover with the suction cups back on the rear of the housing and
fasten it by turning it in clockwise direction.
• After inserting the battery, the radio tower symbol starts to flash in the display.
• The wet room wall clock now attempts to receive a DCF signal (see also chapter
"DCF reception").
• The batteries need to be changed if the display contrast diminishes or the display no
longer functions.
Use of rechargeable batteries is possible. However, due to lower operating
voltage (rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, battery 1.5 V) and lower capacity the
operating time will be less.
If no sensible information is shown in the display, please press the NEU-
START button using a pointed object (e.g. a bent paper clip) to reset the
internal processor.
Installation/Setup
T he humidity protection is only provided if the cover is mounted to the rear
of the housing. If the cover is not mounted, the clock can only be used in dry
rooms.
The wet room radio clock can be placed onto a surface or be wall-mounted.
Wall mounting
• Press the suction cups at the rear of the housing strongly against a smooth surface.
• Alternatively, the clock can also be mounted to a nail or screw in rough wall sur-
faces using the suspension eye at the rear of the housing.
Placing on a surface
• To place the clock on a surface, turn the cover with the suction cups at the rear of
the housing in counter-clockwise direction until it can be pulled off.
• Remove the mounting foot from its holder inside the cover and insert it into the des-
ignated holder at the back of the clock.
• Place the clock on a flat surface.
• Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using an appropriate underlay; otherwise, it
may cause scratches.
To ensure correct DCF reception, the wet room radio clock should not be
placed next to electronic devices, cables, metal parts, etc.
DCF Reception
• After the batteries are inserted, the clock searches automatically for the DCF signal.
This is indicated by a flashing radio tower symbol on the display.
• Normally, the synchronisation process is completed within no more than eight min-
utes.
• As soon as the DCF signal is decoded, the display radio tower symbols appears
continuously and the current time and date are shown in the display.
• During summer time, an S is also shown next to the radio tower symbol.
The detection of the DCF signal and its analysis lasts a few minutes. Do not
move the watch during this time. Do not use any buttons!
Poor DCF reception can occur, for example, due to metallised insulated
glass, reinforced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity
to electronic devices or in cellars.
If the current time is not displayed after eight minutes, change the position of
the clock and start a manual attempt again in order to detect the DCF signal
(see chapter "Manual DCF reception attempt").
Attempts to receive the DCF signal for daily automatic synchronisation are made every
hour between 01:00 a.m. and 05:00 a.m. If the signal is not received, the radio tower
symbol in the display disappears. One successful reception per day is sufficient to
keep the deviation to less than one second.
