13. Range, Reception Problems

The product works in the 868MHz range which is also used by other radio
services. This is why operation or the range might be restricted due to
devices working on the same or on a neighboring frequency.
The specified range of up to 300m is the free view range, i.e. the range
allowing visual contact between transmitter and receiver. In practice,
walls, ceilings etc. between transmitter and receiver might reduce the
range.
In case of reception problems, turn the receiving station a little until the
data of the desired sensor are received again.
If necessary, change the place of installation of the receiving station or
reduce the distance between receiving station and outdoor sensor.
However, reception problems might also occur if the distance between
outdoor sensor and receiving station is less than 1m.
Other causes for a reduced range:
• Any radio frequency interference
• Any housing and vegetation
• Conductive metal parts which are located near the units or within or
near their transmission path, e.g. heaters, metallized insulation glass
windows, reinforced concrete ceilings etc.
• Influence on the radiation pattern of antennas caused by the distance
from the sender or the receiver to conductive surfaces or objects (even
to human bodies or ground)
• Broadband interference in urban areas reducing the signal-to-noise-
ratio; the signal will not be recognized due to this "noise"
• Devices with neighboring operating frequencies, e.g. audio radio trans-
mission devices
• Interference radiation resulting from insufficiently shielded electronic
devices, e.g. turned-on computers or the like.
