DCF signal reception
The table clock has what is known as a DCF function, i.e. a radio signal
(DCF77 signal) is received and this automatically synchronises the time.
This means that the clock displays a very accurate time. The DCF sig-
nal is transmitted by the "Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt" (The
German Federal Physical Technical Agency). The transmitter is located
in Mainflingen, near Frankfurt am Main. The DCF signal is transmitted
continuously and has an approximate range of between 1,500 km and
2,000 km (restricted). For more information on the subject of DCF
reception, see the relevant internet pages.
Please note the following instructions to ensure that the DCF radio signal is received
correctly. The radio signal reception on the device can be impaired by sources of
interference, such as computers, mobile phones, TV sets, strong motors, etc. Place
the device at a considerable distance (1.5 to 2m) from such sources of interference.
The reception is also impaired by reinforced concrete walls and other materials that
screen radio waves.
Experience has shown that the reception is best close to windows and at night (less
sources of interference).
The quality of reception depends on the position of the device relative to the DCF
transmitter. If you do not have any reception, experiment a little with the positioning
of the clock.

heat, cold, and moisture.
Place the table clock on a stable surface and ensure a safe stand. If the clock falls
down, it might injure persons or damage the clock or the floor. Place the device on a
°
level and horizontal surface. Do not place the device on valuable furniture without
suitable protection.
Do not place the device close to heat sources like e.g. heaters as these may falsify
the measuring result for the room temperature and and can also damage the device.

Inserting/changing the batteries

Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries (pay attention to
plus and minus!).
Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Do not leave batteries lying around. Pets
or small children might swallow them. Mortal danger! If swallowed, consult a doctor
immediately.
Batteries may not be shorted, opened or thrown into fire. Batteries must not be
recharged. (Danger of explosion!)
Only use new batteries of the right size and the recommended type. Do not mix old
and new batteries. Chemical liquids may leak out of old or spent batteries and dama-
ge the device. For this reason, remove the batteries when you do not use the device
for a longer period (a month or more).
Leaking or damaged batteries can cause burns if they come into contact with the
skin. You should therefore wear suitable protective gloves.
The battery compartment cover is located on the underside of the table clock. Remove the cover of the
battery compartment. Insert three new micro batteries (AAA) with the polarity aligned. The correct pola-
rity (plus and minus) is shown by the inscription on the battery compartment. Close the battery com-
partment by putting on the battery compartment cover and sliding it closed until it snaps into place.
Use high-quality alkaline batteries to achieve as long a period of operation as possi-
ble. The use of rechargeable batteries is not recommended, as their lower voltage and
SNZ /
capacity reduces the service life.

The display appears after the batteries are inserted.
The batteries need to be changed when the display contrast fades or the display loses brightness.

Initial operation

Before first use, remove the protective foil for protection during transit from the display.
DCF reception
• After you have inserted the batteries, the device automatically attempts to receive the DCF signal.
• A radio tower symbol
the display. Initially, the radio tower icon only appears with a few „waves" above the tower
short time, the icon should be displayed with more „waves" above the tower
nal is strong enough).
Do not press any of the buttons whilst the clock is searching for the DCF signal, other-
wise the reception will be interrupted. Avoid moving the table-top clock whilst it is
searching for the signal as this will have an adverse effect on reception.
• The reception is normally concluded within 10 minutes.
• Afterwards, the radio tower icon appears permanently on the display
the „WAVE OK" icon
• The table clock performs an automatic DCF reception attempt each day at midnight.
Significance of the radio tower symbol and the WAVE OK symbol
• A flashing radio tower signal
• If the radio tower icon is static on the display (not blinking), the device has completed DCF reception.
• The „waves" above the radio tower icon show the signal strength of the received DCF signal. The
more „waves" appear, the stronger the signal.
• The WAVE OK symbol
• If the radio tower icon
last DCF reception attempt was not successful. This can be due to environmental influences, e.g. bad
weather.
DCF reception cannot be performed successfully.
• If the daily automatic DCF reception attempt fails, the radio tower icon
waves without the „WAVE OK" icon
• Then the device attempts to receive the DCF signal again each hour after a failed attempt (max. 4
hours).
• If the DCF reception fails right after inserting the batteries or after a RESET (reset to factory settings),
it tries to perform a 10-minute reception attempt every 3 hours for 10 minutes as long as the recep-
tion is successful.
Starting the DCF signal search manually
The DCF reception can be triggered manually by briefly pressing the SET/WAVE button. Right after this
button is pressed, the device performs a reception attempt. The radio tower icon blinks on the display
