5. Connecting to Wi-Fi
networks
To use Wi-Fi on your phone you
need to access a wireless access
point or "hotspot." Some access
points are open, and you can simply
connect to them. Others are hidden
or have other security features, so
you must configure your phone to
connect to them.
Turn off Wi-Fi when you're not using
it to extend the life of your battery.
To turn Wi-Fi on and connect to a
Wi-Fi network:
1
On the home screen, touch
the Applications tab and
select Settings > Wireless &
networks > Wi-Fi settings.
2
Touch Wi-Fi to turn it on and
start scanning for available Wi-Fi
16
networks.
A list of available Wi-Fi networks is
•
displayed. Secured networks are
indicated by a lock icon.
3
Touch a network to connect to it.
If the network is open, you are
•
prompted to confirm you want
to connect to that network by
touching Connect.
If the network is secured, you are
•
prompted to enter a password
or other credentials. (Ask your
network administrator for details.)
4.
The status bar displays icons
indicating Wi-Fi status.
6. Opening and switching
applications
Multi-tasking is easy with Android
because open applications keep
running even when you open a
further application. You do not
need to quit an application before
opening another one. Use and switch
between several open applications.
